Bleeding and spotting on Gepretix
« on: August 07, 2024, 11:32:29 AM »

Hiya, I’d welcome a bit of advice as I’m getting very anxious!! I’m 56, and have successfully been on HRT for 2.5 years  Sandrena gel 2mg and Utrogestan 200mg for 2 weeks out of 4 as perimenopausal. A few months ago due to the shortage I had Zentiva progesterone, then 2 months of Gepretix and I started spotting then having a heavier than usual monthly bleed. I then read the messages in here about Gepretix and asked to go back on to Utrogestan as was concerned it was the Gepretix causing it. It carried on with the Utrogestan for 1 cycle. I thought it could be the fact that I’ve had 3 different types of Utrogestan in a few months but everyone keeps saying it’s the same so shouldn’t change anything. Even the Utrogestan box is different, mine used to be the blue and white box and this last one was pink and white with foreign writing all over it! Could it be that Gepretix isn’t as strong so my lining built up? Decided to stop HRT and I stopped 8 days ago. I bled very heavily then it’s tapered off but still going after 8 days. I also have PMS so really sore boobs and period pain at times. Saw my GP yesterday who said advisable to have a scan done to see what is happening. She looked at my Cervix and said it looks healthy which is reassuring. Have a scan on Friday morning now but so nervous . 😢

JRider, I wouldn't stop your HRT. Just get the scan done and see then if you need to. Otherwise you are risking all kinds of destabilised hormones for no reason.

They all have identical ingredients. However, maybe the shell itself is made differently and your body is breaking it down differently. Most women don't notice any difference between the different brands of progesterone.

Most likely to be the change in product and hopefully the scan will show there's nothing to worry about. If you're not up to date with smears it would be worth getting that done too as it rules out another possible cause of spotting.
