Vaginal muscles
« on: August 21, 2024, 07:27:16 AM »

Good morning everyone

Sorry if this is a tmi post but I could do with some advice.

For the past few months I’ve noticed that my vaginal muscles haven’t been as strong as they once were. I haven’t had any urinary incontinence but I have lost a lot of sensation and can’t feel my husband very well when we are having intercource. Also when I squeeze I can tell that they’ve lost strength if that makes sense?

I’m 49, still peri I think. I’m on HRT 100 evorel and Utrogestan. Should also say I’ve had 4 kids.

Is there anything I can do to help this, any treatments? I’m doing pelvic floor exercises but not seeing any results.

Anyone else had this?

Thanks so much x

You may need local estrogen to strengthen the pelvic floor and vaginal walls. Although you are on HRT it doesn't always reach the genital area and some need both. I ended up with a prolapse because of lack of estrogen and using vagifem daily plus physiotherapy reversed this without surgery. This physiotherapist also taught me how to do the pelvic floor exercises correctly as doing them the wrong way can cause more damage. Ask your doctor for a referral for therapy and topical estrogen.

I would also say perhaps the start of GSM (Vaginal Atrophy) and local oestrogen would certainly help in either cream or pessary form. As mentioned, systemic HRT does not always reach down to the vaginal area which is very complex all on its own.

Thank you all for your replies. Yes I thought I might need topical estrogen. I’ve got a HRT follow up in early sept so I’ll tell the Dr then.

I am on testosterone which definitely helped with libido initially although this seems to have dipped again. My orgasms are also very weak. Is this something that can come back??

Another option is the Kegel8 Ultra 20. It has different settings, one of which is to help with tightening & improving intimate sensation.
