Testosterone Side Effects
« on: July 31, 2024, 11:50:17 AM »

Hey everyone  :)

So, I'm 43 years old and perimenopause, and have been on HRT since December last year. I had the mirena coil fitted for the progesterone, and following a short time on evorel patches (started on 25, then, 50, then 75) of which I found no real benefit, I am now on Lenzetto 3 sprays per day which I find I absorb better than the patches, even though it appears to be a lesser dose than Evorel 75. For various reasons, the main one being zero libido, I have now been prescribed Tostran 2% for testosterone which is 1 pump every other day, which I have been on for just a week. I apply the Lenzetto on the evening on my inner forearms.  I did apply the Tostran on my inner thighs, but after reading about the hairiness some are experiencing I now apply to the sole of my foot (under the arch).

I had high hopes for being on testosterone as I had heard amazing things for it being "a game changer" with HRT.

However, I have already had 2 times where I have had rage like I've never had before, and it's concerned me. Yes I can get annoyed with things etc but this was something else. I've never raged like that before.  In addition, my tiredness and lethargy has returned. I have also now got what appears to be acne (whiteheads) all over my forehead.  I've never had acne or bad spots etc in my life.  I feel like my get up and go, which had returned before testosterone, has got up and gone.

Anyone else had these side effects?  Any advice?  Will it calm down after a while of getting used to it?  Or should I ring my GP and say I want to come off it?

Thanks in advance x

Rages!  I had those during part of my monthly cycle  :o.  Perhaps stop the testosterone for a week to C what happens?

Has your GP done blood tests for VitD levels and thyroid function?  Becasue we shouldn't blame everything onto peri-menopause, these two can cause symptoms as you describe.  A few years ago I would do 20 mins weeding then have to sit absolutely still for 2 hours  :-\.  Blood test showed low VitD levels, capsules improved the situation.

I would try a lower dose first.

Hi there,

I agree with Sheila, try lowering the dose.

I’ve just gone back on to Tostran and I’ve never been able to take the full one pump alternate days dose. I squeeze out a baked bean size blob instead, I also put it on the arch of my foot.

I’d agree with starting on a very low dose and increasing slowly. I felt awful when I started off at the recommended dose but began to feel better when I reduced the amount .
Sadly after 3 months it has still not improved my libido or sleep issues.
