Starting utrogestan….. when?
« on: July 29, 2024, 01:23:42 PM »

Hi I’m new to HRT and just received it from my doctors a few days ago. I think I’ve been peri menopause for quite a few years my cycles have been quite short 18-24 days but can stretch occasionally  one time it was 80 days. I’m currently on day 37 and wondering do I need to wait for period to start before I can start the utrogestan? It states to take day 15-25, I started the oestrogel as that didn’t specify. Im wondering if the utrogestan will bring on the cycle or should I just wait and see when it comes?  Many thanks for any advice xx

I received my utrogestan on day 16 of cycle and GP told me to wait til next cycle as I'm taking it from day 14 for 14days.
I was allowed to take my oestrogel from them as that's continuous.

Hi - if you've already started taking oestrogel you should NOT wait for your next period which could be some time if you are now peri-menopausal with cycles becoming further apart.  Day 1 of the HRT cycle is the first day you start taking oestrogen (which is usually the first day of the bleed - but not necessarily, as in your case maybe?). You then start taking Utrogestan on Day 15 as per prescription. If you've been taking oestrogel for 37 days without a bleed then I would take the progesterone for longer than prescribed for the first cycle to ensure thinning of the womb - at least 14 days, though if you ovulate in the meantime you may bleed anyway while still taking the prog. If this happens just carry on taking the prog for the full cycle.
