Biopsy and worried
« on: July 27, 2024, 09:18:02 AM »

I had a prolapsed polyp/fibroid removed from my uterus 3 weeks ago and they sent it off for a biopsy. I was called back to the Hysterology Oncology dept and told that they have found abnormalities and are sending it off for more tests and I am now being booked in for a MRI next week.. if anything else is found and the tumour is found to be cancerous I will have to undergo a Hysterectomy.. needless to say I am worried sick and if anyone else has been through the same and had a hysterectomy, what can I expect regarding healing etc.,? I would really appreciate some advice please? I'm post meno.

Hi purplebee
I had a hysterectomy last November, due to an aggressive sarcoma growing in my womb wall ( mistaken for a fibroid unfortunately!)

My surgery recovery was excellent. No heavy lifting for a few weeks, but I was out of bed within 2 days and home by day 5  ( had a bit of additional blood loss ) Driving by week 6 and bowels and bladder all back to normal  within a week or so. I had a TAH and for me, there was no choice in the matter at all.

Good luck and fingers crossed it’s not a cancer. If it is, then a hysterectomy ( and maybe a course of treatment) should take care of things. Obviously it is major surgery, but completely do able if you are sensible. 🌷🌸🙂

Thank you for your support. I had to reach out as I am stressed. I'm glad it all went well for you and your recovery was so good. I've stopped HRT for now and if a hysterectomy is on the cards, then I will just use Oestrogen for the meno symptoms I still have. Again, thank you!

No worries. Best of luck. It’s a stressful time for you, but a hysterectomy ( IF you need one ) is totally manageable ( and you won’t ever need to worry about fibroids etc again ) 🙂🌺

Hysterectomy a few years back and I was out of hospital 2 days later but I had mine done vaginally, they can also now do keyhole, not nearly as invasive.
Wishing you all the luck in the world, please do let us know how you get on x

I know it's easy to say but I would be far less worried about an issue with the uterus than I would be about parts of the body.  It could be that they want to look at the polyps.  I've seen this happen many times on MM over the years and nine times out of 10, the person is OK but if not, a hysterectomy is highly effective and in many cases highly desirable (particularly with troublesome fibroids and polyps) once the stress of the operation is out of the way.

Honestly, I have yet to meet a woman who has regretted having a hysterectomy.
