Sadly : the public have little idea as to how much the big Charities have in their Funds: because they are sponsored by the public the Annual Accounts have to be published or 1 can ask for a copy .......... another problem not realised is that a lot of small rescue centres carry i.e. RSPCA, Cats Protection but receive very little from the Head Office, having to be self funding.
About 5 years ago an RSPCA centre was closing ........ when the interviewer asked why it was due to not receiving any funding from HQ. How does that work ......
My dog found an injured deer many years ago it had obviously been hit but wandered at least half a mile from the road. I carried it home, 2 miles - drove it to the Vets who put it to sleep, the leg was too badly shattered. Last year a woman hit a roe deer and DH came across the incident, he sent her on the way B4 dealing with it. Then we took it to the local hunt for disposal.
It also depends on which 'branch' of these various Charities are better informed than others. Any1 remember a programme in the 1980s about the RSPCA - two of the managers eventually left because a lot of what was shown on TV wouldn't have happened i.e. treated and rehabilitated.
I support charities by buying in the shops or taking stuff in.
