Duavee/Duavive: Any updates, experiences or opinions?
« on: July 03, 2024, 09:26:12 PM »

I was on duavee (Duavive in UK) a few years ago. I've been on the weekly estradiol patch and vaginal progesterone every three months since it was discontinued in 2020. Now that it's back I would (with my Doctor's blessing) like to get back on duavee (with a small supplemental e patch) because it cuts down the cancer risk because of no progesterone needed (i have a uterus).

I'm wondering if there have been any further studies on whether Duavee does actually increase cancer risk. Or any other risks, compared to other HRT.
I would like to know where Duavee (estrogen as premarin + SERM, no progestin) stands vis a vis this same risk spectrum, when compared to estrogen alone, and conventional estrogen + progestin.

Also, I'm wondering if it has the same benefits (it should as it's just premarin, plus i'd have a .25 estradiol patch). I'm especially thinking of skin, hair, vaginal health and libido. I use topical estrogen cream, but systemic estrogen helps a lot with the last two things.

I'm just wondering if the SERM blocks any of the estrogen positive effects on skin, breast appearance, and vaginal health and function?

Has anyone been on it that has any opinion? Or seen any new research? Any other comments on side effects or concerns would be appreciated also!! thank you!!

Hi cityrat

I live in Northern Ireland and have no access to Duavive, been on Tibolone for 6 months as I am progesterone intolerant (gives me depression). My brother who is currently holidaying in Spain has just messaged me to say he has got me some to try, yippeee. Back in 2016 when I was 44 my ovaries were removed, the uterus was left behind even though I asked for it to be removed. Problems with cysts, fibroids and a there was a mass present. I would love to be able to afford to get it removed via keyhole!!! At the time I was told my uterus was HEALTHY. If I had known then what I know now I would have insisted big time. After my op I was put on PREM PAK C. This was great, when it was discontinued the shit hit the fan. Elleste Duet, patches, gel etc etc etc, Utrogestan made me feel like a zombie, tried it vaginally, made me bleed. So I am keen to try Duavive before the premarin/merina coil journey. I have realised I must have been producing a high amount of oestrogen before my op. Equine oestrogen definitely suits me better with no ovaries. The Tibolone is good for hot flushes but does not provide the correct oestrogen effect for me, I dont drink or smoke. I have fluid retention, weight gain and brain fog on some days also, but mood is definitely better, no black hovering clouds. Watch this space for my Duavive journey, brother says 103 euros in Valencia for 3 boxes, dont know if thats 3 month or 9 month supply yet. With the tibolone I am experiencing bladder leaks( I always had a strong pelvic floor and no vaginal births) and migraines too, this proves the oestrogen effect is too low. Feel alert in the morning but fatigued in the afternoon.

Hi cityrat

I haven't looked any of this up recently but aactually curious to know that you say it is now available in UK after being discontinued? I ask because I can't find it on the licensed medicines register (EMC) nor on any of the BMS info, and it's not listed on this website, so perhpas this is so recent that nothing has been updated yet?
