Sandrena gel dose and sleep issues
« on: April 22, 2024, 08:25:46 AM »

Hi
I have been in HRT for 2 years sandrena gel 1.5mg, and merena coil.
I was struggling with sleep and anxiety so upped my does to 2mg sandrena gel and was doing great, no anxiety and 6hrs sleep uninterrupted. My Dr said it was above the recommended dose and that i wasn't absorbing it so put me on 1mgpatches, long story short after 3 months, no sleep, hot flushes back it was waybworse so i went back to the 1.5 sandrena gel. I have been back in it 6 weeks and my sleep is still v poor and i cannot control my body temperature at night, i wake up hot and can't cool down for ages (different to the hot flushes i had)
I take herbal nightol which gets me off to sleep but i am awake at 3 and then on and off from there.
Does anyone else use sandrena gel at 2mg? What are the side effects with 2mg? I spoke to a lady months ago who said she was on 7 pumps of estrogel and just upped it when she felt she needed it.... this is why i went to 2mg.
Has anyone else done this, with drs help?
Like many of you I am find it difficult to function and not be tired,  i don't want to take prescription drugs as they make me feel v groggy

Thanks so much in advance, i find this forum incredibly helpful and reassuring that i am not alone in all this

:welcomemm:  it can be Trial and Error until a regime suits.

GPs do tend to stick with what's written on the leaflet in the packet, rather than allowing ladies to experiment.  Many GPs have little/no idea about menopause treatments.

What were your periods doing B4 you opted for treatment and how old might you be?

Isn't 2mg sandrena equivalent to 100 mcg patch or 4 pumps gel? So within the NHS guidelines. I'm on 100mcg patch and it sorted out my insomnia - same pattern as yours. If it's within the guidelines I'd point it out to your gp. If it isn't perhaps testing your blood levels might give you some ammunition. Or you could ask for a referral to a meno clinic (long delays on nhs).

My doc said the limit is 1.5mg and this was backed up by a private specialist too 😕
