Period on Holiday / Norethisterone
« on: April 01, 2024, 06:00:34 PM »

Hello Ladies,  typically my period seems to fall everytime we have a holiday/ long weekend  :(. I'm currently on peri menopause and taking 2 x utrogestan capsules for 12 days and Lenzetto spray everyday.
My question is, has anyone taken norethisterone straight after utrogestan to delay their period?
Is Utrogestan different to norethisterone?
My periods are horrible at the moment.  Even though they don't last long,  period cramps are awful and I really don't want them when on holiday.  Thanks for your help?

I'm interested in this because I'm exactly the same. I seem to bleed every single time I go away, even if one isn't due. I'm going away in 2 weeks, currently bleeding now and have just switched back to sequi from conti due to constant bleeding/spotting. I'm praying I don't come on again in 2 weeks 🙁

I took norethisterone years ago to stop horrible constant bleeding from a fibroid, and it worked a treat. However I was still having periods and not on HRT or anything else at the time, so I don't know whether it interacts with utrogestan and whether it's safe to combine them.

Utrogestan is body/bio-identical and norethisterone is a synthetic progestogen (and much stronger). You still have to take quite a high dose (google 'period delay tablets') to stop/delay bleeding completely though - something like 5mg 3x day. Think it made me feel a bit bloated but otherwise fine.

Thank you.  I too have taken norethisterone years ago before peri and HRT and was fine, however wasn't sure if I was still able to take out whilst on HRT
Think I'll try and get a doctors appointment.   :)

If you're on utrogestan and you just want to delay a few days, just keep taking utrogestan a few extra days. It doesn't always work but even when I bleed, it seems to be much lighter if I'm taking progesterone and so a much easier period...

I have tried this before,  however I took the utrogestran a few days earlier so I could carry on when period was due,  but sadly didn't work.   :(.
I haven't extended it for longer though.
