Cyclogest 3 month update - good news!
« on: March 29, 2024, 06:08:03 PM »

I thought I’d give a 3 month update on my trial of Cyclogest in case anyone is interested in giving it a try.

I’m 51 and in peri and after erratic bleeding on Everol Sequi (scans showed everything was fine), a failed coil fitting, and bad reaction to utrogestan, I went privately to see what my other options were.

It was suggested I start on 100mcg Cyclogest continuously and build up from a 25 to 50 oestrogen patch and all is well! The Cyclogest causes no anxiety or mood issues, I’ve had no bleeding at all and the only side effect is sleeping solidly, more vivid dreams and generally feeling more mellow in the daytime. Yes, it can make me tired in the mornings if I take it too late, so I now take it after dinner around 7pm and still stay up to 10.30-11pm without feeling too tired.

My GP won’t prescribe Cyclogest, only the patches (so annoying when it is the same product as utrogestan!), so I’ll continue to get this privately but I would recommend trying it if you’ve had issues with other progesterones. I was fed up and had virtually given up on HRT so I’m thrilled this has worked so well. Good luck ladies! x

Thats brilliant news AM16. I used cyclogest rectally but unfortunately didnt absorb it well.

I got my cyclogest from my gp isnt it strange how practices differ.

Thank you for your post.

I’m going to try Cyclogest as I just can’t get on with progesterone.

I got mine from a private menopause clinic but before I used it wanted to give progesterone a good go.

I definitely know it’s the progesterone that causes me a downward spiral in my moods.

Best wishes

That's excellent news!  I found Cyclogest to be completely different from Utrogestan with zero side effects although I do only use a 50mg dose.

I would definitely recommend it for those who struggle with progesterone.

Sorry AM16, I meant to ask, I presume you take the cyclogest vaginally, its just that you said you take it about 7pm. When I took the cyclogest I took it rectally in the mornings. I've had 3 months off hrt, back on it now and taking utrogestan orally.

Hi there, yes, I do take it vaginally. I tried utrogestan both orally and vaginally and had bloating, indigestion, tiredness and irritation (the v route). I think Cyclogest is just the progesterone and vegetable fat so it’s much more gentle on the tissues. I’m really unsure why GPs don’t prescribe it as I’m sure it would be a good alternative for many!

I hope your routine works well for you - it would be much simpler (and cheaper) if I had tolerated utro but there we go. x

Hi you say you are on 100mg - do you cut the cyclogest in half? So glad it’s working out for you!

Glad the cyclogest works for you. I really like that you can tailor the dose to suit your needs, which can change over time. I finally managed to get the GP to prescribe it so no more extra cost in that respect :)

Hi, yes I cut a 200mg in half width ways. I tried doing it lengthways and it just crumbles, so I figure over two nights I’m getting the full amount if it’s not quite equal. x

You’re so lucky! My GP wouldn’t even agree to me trying utrogestan vaginally (but I did). I hope things get better in terms of progesterone as this seems to put a lot of people off HRT (almost me!). x

Thank you so much for sharing! This is great news for you. Your message is so important to those of us who get very unwell on Utro - and it's fantastic that you can tailor the dose; that's really important for a lot of us too.
