Hi all, I've recently had my bloods done to check my hormone levels and testosterone but while the results are on my chart, I have to wait over a week to actually be able to speak with the GP.

I've been on HRT for over 2 years, and been on the highest dosage for 4 months (patch). I'm 44 and I've been struggling with brain fog, facial flushing, mood swings, anxiety, and non existent libido.  I came off birth control in September 2023 and I had one period in January 2024 and nothing since.

My Serum oestradiol level is < 19 pmol/L which Dr Google says is post-menopausal unless I'm reading it wrong? I'm in the UK which may make a difference to ranges etc. My testosterone is also showing borderline low according to the results - Serum testosterone level 0.5 nmol/L [0.3 - 1.7]


I'm worried because my Dr is talking about taking me off HRT all together since I'm still struggling with symptoms despite being on the highest dosage. Having to wait another 10 days to actually speak to someone is stressful!!

Just wondering if anyone has any similar experiences, or has a better idea what the Serum oestradiol levels may indicate?

Hi, welcome to the Forum.
Have you tried any other delivery method besides patches? What about the gels, or a different brand of patch?

As above, you're not absorbing from the patches you're on so the next step would be a different delivery method. There are lots of options, see Treatments from the menu (just in case your gp says that's the only one available). For some people libido returns with adequate oestrogen, others need to add testosterone. They will want you oestrogen levels optimal first though.

Thanks everyone, my GP hasn't offered any other form of HRT, just the patch, so I guess I didn't realise it was an option. I will definitely raise that when I finally get to speak to her!

If she isn't supportive ask for a referral to a dedicated menopause clnnininc - there are waiting lists in both private and NHS sectors.  U may find that the hospitals in your area have info on their web sites. 

A week isn't a long while to wait these days
