New to all this and vagifem.
« on: March 11, 2024, 12:48:50 PM »

Hi all. I thought I was breezing through this. Menopause malarkey then…
I’m 60 not suffered with much at all really. One of the annoyingly easy ones until I discovered some vaginal dryness issues during intimacy. Long story short hadn’t had intercourse for some years. Tried to and oh my god the pain! So having consulted friends etc I’ve been directed to vagifem to try. My GP happy to dispense from an e-consult. I’d appreciate your thoughts pros and cons and any other info about it. Thanks.

Not a lot of negatives once vaginal atrophy treatment starts.  Occasionally there mayB side effects with 'vagifem', i.e. headaches which resolve quickly: the idea is to use for 2-3 weeks every night then as necessary.  Some require every night others manage to keep symptoms under control with i.e. every 3rd and every 5/6 nights.

There are also moisturisers for the outer labia if required.  'yes' and 'sylc' have good reports.  I manage with 'ovestin' internally as well as a smear on the outer areas,  occasionally KY jelly .  When I get the need2P I swallow pain relief to ease the nip as the urine flow shuts off.

:welcomemm:  browse round.  Do read any threads relating to vaginal atrophy as well as the 'bladder issues' thread.  Ask away.  Well done your GP  :medal:

Vagifem and, or Ovestin alongside a moisturiser is the only way to treat Vaginal Atrophy and its for life. Some women do have issues with it but most including me experience no problems whatsoever.

Best advice I can give you is to search on here using the words vaginal atrophy, there are tons of posts here regarding this unpleasant condition.

Hello,

I hope that Vagifem helps you. I suffered quite badly with dryness and irritation after being put into surgical menopause suddenly after cancer.

At first Vagifem helped but then I found I had tiny bit of irritation and spotting so I changed to a Intrarosa (Prasterone pessary as recommended by Dr Newson - meno specialist). It’s a coconut oil based DHEA pessary.

I also was recommended as an external moisturiser to use as and when, called Dr Wolff’s V San cream (on Amazon). That’s also super!

Yes and Sylc good for intercourse. Hope you find what works for you!

Best wishes
