Interstitial Cystitis
« on: March 10, 2024, 08:02:51 AM »

Hi

Anyone here have interstitial cystitis? And what dose of estrogen patch are you on? Mine was all fine until I had to come off the birth control pill (Yaz) about 6 months ago and the pain came back. My GP first prescribed vaginal pessaries (of estrogen) which helped a tiny amount but not enough - and then I progressed up to estrogen patches (25mcg). After a couple of weeks things settled down and I was able to drink coffee and alcohol again. But about a month later the pain came back. The pharmacist said that the dose of patch that I was on was quite low, and so I went up to 50mcg. I've been on that for about 2 weeks but the pain is still there. I'm thinking I might have to go up to 100mcg - is that a high dose of estrogen? Keen to hear from other women with IC.

cheers
Jackie

Hi, yes I have interstitial cystitis and take 100mcg patch and estrogen pessaries. I also take amitriptyline as the estrogen alone isn't enough to manage the symptoms. Also if I take the utrogestan vaginally it causes pain but if i take them orally they help.

I've also had to cut out spicy food and anything acidic from my diet. Its taken me about 18 months to get to the point where either feel about 90% better but still have flare ups if I eat the wrong thing or drink too much alcohol.

Hi Lowflyingcake

It's interesting that you take the pessaries as well as the patch. I've discovered if I have pain, it will go away within about an hour of inserting the pessary. (This is as well as being on a 50mcg patch). Did you try the utrogestan vaginally because of side effects? I notice that it makes me quite tired and was thinking of trying this.

cheers
