Reassurance please
« on: February 26, 2024, 09:26:42 AM »

Hi,

After 3 months off HRT I have been back on conti for 4 weeks (2 weeks gel & utrogestan and 2 weeks Evorel conti patches). Have been feeling much better bar a few symptoms. However I started bleeding yesterday and slightly heavier today. My last bleed was August (when on sequi). GPs want me on conti due to age 55 (56 in July).

I have read that bleeding is common within the first 3 to 6 months of a new HRT regime and trying hard not to panic. I am more fed up than anything - there always seems to be something.

Any wise ones out there? Do I need to contact GP immediately or sit it out a bit?

Sit it out.  It may B your hormones being activated.   Is age relevant to the type of Evorel patches prescribed?

Also put the product names into the search box: individually : to read the appropriate threads.  Make notes.

As you know bleeding can be expected in the first 3-6 months of any new conti regime. It can also be expected when you're not meno. As your last bleed wasn't a year ago you're not meno yet and despite some gps believing the fairy tale that everyone is meno by 55 some aren't until their early 60s. Imo it's very likely to be hormonal.

I had been on a sequi regime for 2.5 years and had a monthly bleed which wasn't always after I stopped the utrogestan so never sure if it was my own breakthrough bleed or the progesterone not being absorbed.

The GPs have been keen for me to move to conti as they think I should be menopausal by now (55 going on 56) as they are concerned about endometrial protection on sequi. I do not get on with Utogestan continually so am giving the conti paches a try. They seem to be ok so far, except for this new bleed.

I dread speaking to the GPs as I sense they aren't really listening, don't really like prescribing HRT and always worry me about womb cancer.

Thank you Sheila99. All that you say is exactly what I think .....but it was alarming when it happened unexpectedly. Thank you.

I bled for ages when I first went onto conti but it settled after a while I haven't had any breakthrough bleeding since.

I would give it several weeks to settle down.
