Pain lower stomach
« on: February 03, 2024, 04:13:44 PM »

Hi,
I have been uncomfortable for about a week woth what feels like pain and pulling in my ovaries and the middle, lower stomach area.
I saw the gp who said I have a uti and have been on 3 days of trimethoprim.
This morning after sex, I had a cramping sort of pain down there again.
I'm in full swing with perimenopause and wondered if these are hormonal things or the uti?
I will of course see the doctor to check the uti has been treated.

Did your GP send a urine sample off to a Lab to be tested?  if it's a UTI 3 days isn't enough AB.

Do you have UTI symptoms
Burning when pee
Urinary frequency
Temp
Also lower back pain and more

How old of you if you don’t mind me asking ?

Also did the gp dip ur urine or send it off ?

Am only asking because I used to work in a gp surgery and they quickly diagnose
Suspected UTI’s and treat then it turns out once ur urine sample been sent off that it’s not actually a uti

Hope u get it sorted x

I'm not sure of she sent it off she said there was enough evidence in it to show infection (leukocytes?)
I just feel like I need a wee all the time and and heaviness if that makes sense. I've had a bit of lower back pain.
I'm 48.

Many dip stick tests show 'leukocytes'.  To be certain a sample should be sent to a Lab to be grown = the correct AB prescribed.  A broad spectrum AB will ease symptoms but the problem of a loss of oestrogen can be eased by appropriate vaginal atrophy treatment.

Ring your Surgery on Monday and ask for 'vagifem'.  The idea is to insert into the vagina for 2-3 weeks to plump up the vaginal area - some require it nightly for a many months, other ladies can keep symptoms under control by inserting every 3rd and 4/5th nights.  Some use 'ovestin' on the outer labia region or a moiustorisor, it's a bit trial and error!

When I get the need2P symptoms I swallow 'nurofen' to ease the nip as the urine flow shuts off.

Tnx Bass1979.

Could this be the start of vaginal atrophy I wonder. So many of us start of thinking it's something else like UTI or thrush. Worth discussing with your GP xx

When ive had sex,  I get lower pelvic pain sometimes 2 days after. It always worries me but I think my bladder and other organs  must get bashed a bit. The uro gyny man thought I was probably right. I'm not as robust now I'm older.

Had you finished the antibiotics before you had sex as it's usually advised, with UTI, not to have sex until the course is finished.
