Hello ladies, I wanted to share something wonderful.
My 73 year old mum has had painful knee arthritis for years (one knee being particularly worrying). As I am constantly researching because of my own perimenopause and have repeatedly read about the connection between arthritis/joint problems and hormones, I inspired my mum to make an appointment with her gynaecologist and ask about the possibilty of HRT even at her age. To be honest, we both didn't expect that he would support the idea of starting her on HRT at 73...
But her doctor's reaction was so heartwarming! He praised her for her out-of-the-box thinking and prescribed HRT immediately!
Now my mum has been taking her tablets for 2 months and I can report the following:
1. She feels perfect and sleeps like a baby after years of sleep issues
2. Her voice, which got quite coarse with age, has now become much softer and more feminine! The difference is really stunning.
3. And the best thing: the one very problematic knee, which had been very painful and inflamed for years, improved hugely! It is more flexible and less painful every day!
She is totally thrilled (and me with her). The only thing that worries me a bit is that the doctor is a fan of modern synthetic combination tablets and has prescribed her oral HRT pill (combination of Dienogest and Estradiol Valerate). I would sleep more soundly if she took natural oral progesterone and dermal oestrogen. So I suggested that at her next consultation she should ask him to change her prescription to a safer version.
My mom took HRT during her Perimenopause in the 90's, but at some point after a few years her doctor stopped the therapy - as most doctors did back then. So this HRT is not her very first experience. She has absolutely no side effects and only feels the benefits (I knock on wood and really hope it stays that way!).
Of course I will be grateful for any suggestions regarding the synthetic HRT and switching to the bodyidentical form...
Lucy
