Emergency Contraception while on HRT
« on: December 11, 2023, 11:48:34 PM »

Hi Everyone, I have a question, not sure if anyone can advise me. I had an issue with contraception yesterday and not confident it was effective. I'm 49 and have been on HRT for 3.5 years, I'm on a cyclical regime and bleed regularly (sometimes too regularly! I've only just settled some bleeding in the last 2 months which has been a bit erratic since changing progesterone type last year). As you can imagine I do not want to rock the hormonal boat, I am supposed to start the progesterone part of the cycle tomorrow. I went to the pharmacy and was given a levenostrel morining after pill. The thing is I don't know if I am over worrying and should just see incase I am nolonger ovulating or if I should just take the pill and be done with it so I am not anxious about it and I don't know how much it can mess up HRT/cycling if I take it. Anyone have any experience or ideas?

My daughter is just about turn 17! I can't imagine physically having a baby now! In the middle of the menopause transition!

Any Thoughts gratefully appreciated,

Claire

Hi Claire. I would use the pill as getting pregnant would also mess up your HRT/cycling for a lot longer. These things happen. It happened to me at 53 just before I began HRT.

As above. Even if it does rock the hrt boat it's a good deal less disruptive than a baby   :)
