HRT side effects
« on: December 06, 2023, 02:30:28 PM »

Hi all, im new here. I joined but wasnt sure if i would use the resources/ forum, but here i am. Im 40 and technically been in Menopause since i was 19. After years and years of tooing and froing from hospital to Drs back to hospital i started HRT 3 months ago. It is hell. i hate it. When i was young (presumably going through puberty/ should have been starting periods) i had horrendous temper tantrums and mood swings - i couldnt help it, i was nuclear every day. Fast forward to today and im reliving it thanks to the HRT. Im on the gel and Ustrogen (?) 100mg daily. The DR sold me on it - saying it would solve my migraines, solve my stomach issues help me with my depression - not that ive noticed. The only thing its helped with is that sex is no longer painful.

Aside from being really moody, my boobs are really sore and they alternate between painful to overly sensitive. My migraines havent magically stopped either

I was wondering how everyone else gets on with it? Im so fed up, it hasnt settled down in the 3 months ive been on it and today im just as bad, everything sets me off, im irrationaly angry and snappy.  :(

Oh you R going through the mill -  :welcomemm:  you are amongst friends.

Have U looked at the Daisy web-site, specifically for 'early' menopause.  Your GP should have referred you there as well as to a dedicated menopause clinic.  I didn't think that HRT should be prescribed if 1 has migraines ........ hopefully some1 will be along with more info on this.  R these cyclical ?

Is there a GP interested in womens health at your Surgery?  Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.

I had rages  :argue: :cuss: at certain times of the month.

Not the best time to be angry  ::)

Hello! I havent heard of Daisy before, but ive just been for a follow up and the Dr recommended the Balance App? I havent heard of that either! I told her how i was getting on and how bad i felt - her solution was to go from 1 pump of gel to 4 a day plus the utrogestan (i have no idea how its spelt haha) I wasnt exactly thrilled at that, but she said i needed to keep going with it.

She said she was also unsure how id managed so long with no hormones and was still going! Essentially because im so "starved of hormones" its going to take a longer time to adjust.

So i guess for now im just going to be an awful person T_T

Do you take any supplements at all? I was wondering if any vitamins would help with my symptoms :)

Has your GP don't thyroid function and VitD blood tests recently?

Is she aware of a diagnosis for your puberty problems?    Sadly few GPs have been aware of how a loss of periods can affect girls !  what ever age we might B.

Supplements shouldn't be necessary.  If your overall diet is good, you do some exercise and keep hydrated - that's a starting point - the National Association for Pre-menstrual Syndrome [NAPS] advised me to eat every 3 hours to stop that sudden energy dip - which may help U with the anger issues.  That's every 3 hours 24/7.  Not to add anything to the diet but to spread it over 24 hours.

I've found - oh, forgot what I was going to suggest  ::)

I went back and forward from hospitals and "experts" for nearly 16 years with no clear diagnosis - in the end i got so fed up of all the tests with no answers that i discharged myself when i was 32. I had a slight eating disorder (probably still do) when i was 16 but it wasnt long term, i used to put it down to that and assumed periods would start eventually.

I had full bloods recently and apart from no hormones, low folic and vitamin D they said i was okay. I have a follow up blood test next week but to check the  vitamins.

I mean i went through puberty - i got the bewbs and the pewbs lol - all that was missing was the periods!
