Combined Pill for menopause
« on: December 28, 2023, 07:15:13 PM »

Hello.. Has anyone been prescribed the combined pill for menopause? I'm 48 and have been on Eloine combined pill,  which my GP prescribed, for the last year and a half, initially to help to manage my periods which were all over the place and heavy. Its been great, but despite being okay for 6 months or so, I began to notice my mental health was suffering, mood swings, generally okay then a low mood for few days just breaking out in tears with it, then okay again for few weeks etc. Anxiety has crept up on me too, along with brain fog/forgetfulness, irritability, and a distinct lack of motivation. It's not like me, I'm not depressed, but the above can just hit me out of nowhere and then disappear.
However, I returned to my GP about this and she has now prescribed a slightly high dose combined pill Yasmin, same type of estrogen and progesterone in it, but the estrogen is a higher dose (30mcg as opposed to 20mcg in Eloine). She said it would be best to try this for 3 months to see if this helped the above mentioned symptoms as I don't want to return to the very heavier unpredictable periods which she said may happen with HRT, and I don't want a coil fitted. She said that if it helps I can stay on Yasmin until I'm 50, then change to HRT.
Just wondering if anyone else has had experience similar to the above?
Thanks for reading (apologies for long post)

No experience of these as I've always been on transdermal hrt but it isn't unusual to need more oestrogen as you produce less yourself. I started on 50mcg and have had to increase twice because my meno symptoms returned.
