Polyp Removal Today
« on: November 16, 2023, 06:14:20 PM »

Had an appointment to takes biopsies and to see if there was a visible reason why I’ve been bleeding.  Gyno found two polyps, one quite large. He tried to remove them but the larger one was proving difficult to remove and I was in pain so I’ve been told I need a D&C to remove them and to take the thickened lining away. He could also see I had quite bad VA. I then had my blood pressure taken which was high. It always is as I have white coat syndrome.  They took my BP again and it was higher and then again and again until it was 240/157! They wouldn’t let me out, said I had to go to A&E but fortunately the consultant said I hadn’t got any other symptoms and I’d just be left waiting for 10 hours so they let me go home. BP had gone lower now. Anyway, the consultant said if my BP was high they wouldn’t do the D&C and it could be done without being under anaesthetic. I’m terrified! Has anyone had this done while awake?  He also said I might need a hysterectomy at some point. I took blood pressure pills and a diazepam before going to hospital today but nothing ever keeps my blood pressure steady in these situations. My guess is I’ll go for the procedure and it won’t be done.  Does anyone else have blood pressure issues in these situations and were you able to overcome them?

Many have white coat syndrome!   It may be worth while asking if you can have an over-night stay to monitor your BP prior to the D&C. I think that the problem should be investigated as far as is possible. No way should any1 consider it without GA.  I take it that the consultant is a bloke?  :-\

MayB take your BP morning and evening for 3 weeks to hand to inform your Consultant B4 undergoing any more procedures.

Yep it was a bloke!  They rang me twice when I got home for me to give them readings. My blood pressure is never great but it goes mental in these situations even though I feel
perfectly calm. I really don’t fancy being awake for the procedure. I might ask if I can go in the night before, that’s a good idea.  I’m hoping they can give me something if there is an issue.  A lot of medication sends my blood pressure higher.. it’s really strange and of course, no one believes me!

Have you got a home monitor? If so take your BP twice a day, three readings each time, so you can show your normal blood pressure. My partner does this as his goes really high when in a medical setting.

I do take my blood pressure every day. It’s not always great but never anywhere near what it has been today.  I’ll keep a diary for a week before I go

My BP was high before a procedure. I was terrified though so no wonder. They wrote the readings down and told me to see my doctor.  I had to submit readings then again in 3 months and he was satisfied with them. It's really hard if you're nervous of medical stuff. I've never had a D&C but my mum has with a GA. Don't do anything you're not sure of
