Crawling itchy skin
« on: November 09, 2023, 07:16:59 PM »

Does anybody get I itchy crawly skin from top to toe all the time.  I’m 57 about 5 years post menopausal.  Had this sensation for a few days now.  I’m really freaking out.  I already get health anxiety and general anxiety!

Yep.   :welcomemm:  4 many it's as oestrogen levels drop.  For me it was insteps as I stepped out of socks into my evening bath followed by across the shoulders below my neck  ::) and I would wake in the night with 1 ruff heel scratching the other.  That was at the end of perimenopause as periods stopped.

My DH uses 'nivea' for his legs and feet.  If U don't have a rash then mayB try some hand cream on the areas and make an appt with your Nurse Practitioner to rule out other conditions  = aneamia or other diseases affecting kidneys, thyroid, or liver issues can cause itching sensations.

Don't panic and don't GOOGLE

Let us know how you get on.

Itchy right arm comes and goes. Nothing to see, so l just puts loads of moisturising cream on it which seems to help.

Yes I've had this on and off for years....postmenopausal like you. Mine tends to be the scalp mainly and down below unfortunately

Yes, post-menopausal and I have it 24/7.  Not sure whether it’s low oestrogen or too much as I’m on HRT - 2 pumps of estradiol.

Was it a problem prior to starting HRT wuzzie?  I get intermittent skin dryness = itching .  Usually due to dropping oestrogen levels.  How long have U been using HRT?

I believe it came on when I started the menopause along with so many other symptoms.  Started taking HRT in 2014 and been on a low dose ever since.  I’ve talked to Drs about it but nobody has a clue what may be causing it.  I don’t notice it when I’m active but the minute I sit down it starts, all over my body except my head fortunately!  It’s a complete mystery.  Mine feels like it’s under the skin.

It's quite a common complaint.  Like ants crawling some describe it!  It is possible that other conditions as well as perimenopause may cause it, i.e. low mineral/vitamins.

When mine aggravates my skin I put a lot of hand lotion on the itchy bits.  I have since childhood had itchy feelings under my rib cages, which was put down to imagination  >:(.  Hard to describe other than I want to get under the ribs to scratch  :o

Morning.  I have had several insects bites in recent weeks, however my whole body is itching  >:(.  Scalp, back of legs, various other parts ..........  :(. Off to find some soothing lotion and check for signs of insects and no we don't have fleas inside  ;D though I have been bitten round the ankles after sitting on the patio: probably hedgehog ones that hide in my socks  :o

Hi Warwick01 - I have restless legs which are cured by eating several small bananas daily, 4 me it's lack of potassium.  I can feel the legs 'drawing' all the while which is worse when I get into bed at night.  Nurofen when they wake me help me return to sleep.

Talking of which: after swallowing an anti-histamine last night on the advice of my pharmacist friend, I could sleep for weeks  :D.Slept through parts of MotoGP and le Tour won't see much of my viewing either  :-\

Hi all I’m new on here so not sure if what im typing will go to the right place but I’ll do it anyway.                                            Peri started properly I’d say age 48 but d had no periods for years due to Mirena coil, removed 2020 then put on Kilofem.  Had a slight bleed in June 2023 so I’m guessing I’d be post menopause now . Somewhere in 2020’I started wil the most horrendous itchy skin…. I mean literally everywhere!! On and off for 5 years now and talk about driving me insane I get the odd few days peace here and there but oh boy when it flares it has me demented… like prickly itchy tingly ALL OVER me. Bloods have all come back normal. I’ve tried so many creams and anti histamines even 180 ml of fenofexadine didn’t touch it! I’m trying the child’s farm oat derma atm but still as bad. After 5 years I’m completely cheesed off with it. Dr changed me onto patches instead of  tablets (Kilofem) but no result unfortunately.  Any ideas how long this can last for?? I don’t really get hot flashes any more just periods were my skin feels very warm but I don’t, no sweating or anything just hot skin and this seems to intensify it and my clothes touching me doesn’t help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated TIA x
