Thinking of changing from sequential utrogestan to daily
« on: September 24, 2025, 02:26:58 PM »

I'm 63 yrs old and 11yrs post menopausal most of this time I've been on a sequential evorel 50 patch and 12 days of vaginal utrogestan with a bleed, I'm now absolutely fed up with the bleed but don't want to go onto the synthetic combined progestin patches so I was thinking about trying the utrogestan 100mg every night, I believe it's for 25 days with a 3 day break? And I would start as soon as my current bleed ends? I am a little nervous about this because I already get quite sleepy and groggy during the day using utrogestan vaginally. Can anyone advise me please on whether this regime is worth trying? Also can it be taken orally on an empty stomach before bed? Just unsure about making the change after 10 or so years but I'm truly fed up with the withdrawal bleed

You may actually feel better with continuous as it's half the dose.

I would take it vaginally for the least grogginess.

Food increases absorption of oral micronised progesterone which is not a problem for most people but for those who are sensitive the vaginal route is better than going to bed hungry.

There is no need to have 3 days off, this is likely to precipitate withdrawal bleeding.

I actually only use 1 x 100mg vaginally for 12 days and if I change to orally I would have to take it on an empty stomach as I fast after my main meal so not sure how this will work, I'm a bit fed up with it all to be honest and my dr's are absolutely useless  :(

Hi Goosieloosie,

Sorry I can't help with taking utrogeston continuously as I only tried it sequentially (days 15 to 26) for a few months but if taken orally it is recommended to be taken at night at least 2 hours after food.

I found taking it at night before bed helped with sleep and thankfully didn't feel groggy the next day
