Hospital gynae appointment today
« on: October 10, 2023, 07:55:26 AM »

Been fast tracked, and seeing gynae at the hospital after pelvic scans 2 weeks ago. Sonographer said it looks like a polyp (again - been here before). Been told that if surgery is indicated, there might also be pre-op assessment today. Hope so, just want to get this out of the way and move on.

Hope surgery will stop the bleeds, but they didn’t last time I was on HRT. Been advised to try Mirena if everything else has been sorted.

Can’t fault NHS for the speed of referral. I’m going to a private hospital, and get to choose a surgery date if it’s needed.

Good luck Flossie.
Let us know how you get on.

I've been bleeding for about a month now, my gynae appointment is Friday. I'm on  HRT.
I'm hoping extra progesterone will sort me out. I've got endometrial hyperplasia 5mm. Apparently,  that's the highest they like to see it, but the bleeding has got worse over the last two weeks. ...I'm so fed up of it now. xx

Jillydoll, I’m fed up too. Been having a year of bleeds since I restarted HRT in August 2022. Several tweaks in HRT, to no avail. I think bleeding on HRT is normal for me as it happened last time and a polypectomy didn’t make a difference, so went back on a sequential regime. I’m now 58 and thinking wouldn’t it be nice to be bleed-free…

Will keep you posted how today goes. Hope you manage to get sorted too.

Hello flossiefiddler

I hope your appointment goes well and please keep us updated.

I know the worry that bleeding can cause and in the past a tweaking of my HRT was all that was needed to resolve it.

Take care ladies.

Thanks for replying. I’ve been tweaking since September 2022, unfortunately. Feel great on HRT, so really want to get sorted. I’ve had all this before, and bleeding on HRT, even on a Conti regime, seems normal for me. Maybe Mirena is the answer 🤷‍♀️

An update. Been for my appointment with the consultant just now, and she thinks the bleeding is caused by the HRT. I’m waiting now for a hysteroscopy/polypectomy/biopsy/Mirena fitting, all in one procedure.

In the meantime, I have to come off the HRT (oh joy!) until the procedure. When I asked why, she said that it will hopefully reinforce the fact that HRT is causing the bleeds. I’m really not looking forward to that bit, and hope the op won’t be too far away.

Once the Mirena is fitted, I can start back on the Evorel 50 patches again.

I forgot to ask about staying on the Vagifem though. I was on that for 2.5 years without other HRT with no bleeding at all. Any advice about that? Think I’ll pop a message across to my GP about that. She and the consultant are definitely singing from the same hymn sheet.

That's great Flossie. Get it all out the way in one go.

Not sure about the vagifem as I don't use it.

But good luck, hope they sort you soon. x

Continue with the VA treatment.  Also, have U been given an appt for this procedure: I think her excuse is a bit wishy washy myself.  What if you have to wait a long time B4 you get the appt.?  I would want a definite date B4 stopping any of my medication, bearing in mind that medics have and will continue to, take strike action.  >:(

Is this to be a day case of over night stay?  U will require someone to drive you there/back and do ask for sedation at the very least.

Whilst HRT may be triggering the bleeds, stopping treatment .........  :-\

Thank you! Pretty much mirroring what I was thinking. It’s under GA, but a day case. I’ve had the procedure before, minus the Mirena, so know what to expect. It’s NHS treatment but in a private hospital, current wait time is 6 weeks but I don’t have a date for the procedure yet.

Hubby had already suggested waiting to get a date before I stop HRT but keep using the Vagifem. I suspect he’s thinking of his own comfort and safety as well as mine  😂😂

I hadn’t even considered the strikes. Thanks again for your suggestions. They all make sense.

I had a hysteroscopy and polyp removal under general anaesthetic and I didn’t stop my HRT. x

I wouldn't ever stop my essential medication until I had a firm date.  Years ago I had 3 lots of dates cancelled  >:( - had I stopped The Pill, who knows  :o. That's the trouble with day case surgery, when patients were admitted 2-3 days prior any treatment could be stopped when necessary.  I don't believe in day case surgery.

Sadly the NHS do not have the resources for overnight stays.
People I know who have had overnight stays have found them to be thoroughly unpleasant.

The problem with day case surgery is that a huge % of patients are rushed back to hospital because they were discharged 'too early'  :(

How do U feel this morning Flossie?

Hello ladies.

Flossiefiddler - I hope your surgery goes well and please keep us updated.

I agree with Limpy, the NHS doesn't have the resources to keep patients in overnight. If you want your surgery at all you have to deal with the circumstances whether you like it or not.

When my daughter had my grandson the hospital were routinely discharging mothers and babies the day after a caesarian. This proved to have dire consequences for some families.

Take care ladies.

Flossie - Really hope everything went well for you.
CLKD - In the real world, the NHS, like everybody else, can only operate with what they can afford. The NICE guidelines reflect this.
