Advice Welcome for Sandrena Gel Application
« on: October 10, 2023, 05:24:28 PM »

Hi All,

I am about to start Sandrena Gel after swapping from Oestrogel. Does anyone have any tips for how to apply the gel?

I have use 1 and a half sachets so looking for advice on application and how to work out half of a sachet? Do you need to clip the top of the sachet to keep it ready to use the next day?

Any advice welcome.

MayB put the product name into the search box to see if threads pop up.  Make notes;-)

Thanks CLKD,

I have tried searching for Sandrena but there are lots of posts. I have scrolled through lots of them but I can not find any about how to use half a sachet.

Hi, I've used Sandrena but it was quite a few years ago & can't remember whether I needed to split a sachet, but yes I would clip the top as we do with Testogel, unless it says in the PIL not to keep opened sachets.  Is it the lowest dose (0.5mg) sachets you've been prescribed?  I think Kathleen uses Sandrena, or has done recently, so you could perhaps PM her about it.

Hi Sue - if you're swapping from Oestrogel (which is like Testogel in consistency) then you will find Sandrena is quite sticky - if the formulation is still the same as a few years ago - and doesn't appear to dry in the same way ie not so quickly - presumably due to the other fillers. I'm not sure what this means in terms of absorption but when I used it, after about 15 mins I would get dressed etc and not worry about it. I would suggest for those who apply it at night, and sleeping with minimal clothing with a partner - maybe apply it earlier in the day as I am sure there is more potential for transfer (but I haven't looked into this). I only used it for a few months because I then went back to patches.

Testim is similar to Sandrena in the stickiness and I do the same with that which I now use instead of Testogel - leave it for about 15 mins then put my socks on and get on with the day!

Hope it works for you.

Thanks Hurdity,

I have swapped from Oestrogel due to the bottle changes and that new bottle not working for me. Some people say the new bottles do not not dispense the same amount but I also found there was a change in smell and consistency. The gel was also taking so much longer to dry!

I used my first sachet of Sandrena last night and it took half the time to dry compared with the recent Oestrogel bottles.

I am also feeling much better this morning. It may be the placebo effect but I really hope being on the Sandrean gel gets me back to where I was on the old Oestrogel. 🙏 x
