Weight loss help
« on: September 13, 2023, 05:54:23 AM »

Hi all,
I'm looking for inspiration please 🙂
I've been struggling to lose weight in perimenopause and have acquired that shape where I've gained weight around my middle. You know the one I mean, that hanging bit 😂
Has anyone got any tips for losing that weight and toning up a bit. I'll be honest I've never been skinny but I was curvy, now I'm just wobbly...
Thank you!

I have been loosely following the Mediterranean diet. Not specifically for weight loss but for the health benefits. It turns on its head everything I thought I knew about weight loss. I now eat full fat everything, such as yogurt, cheese, and healthy fats like olive oil and vegetable oil. One of the ‘side effects’ is losing fat.

It was a programme I saw back in 2012 by Michael Mosley called Eat, Fast and Live Longer that piqued my interest, and his recent book ‘The Fast 800’ explains in detail, and he backs everything up with scientific research examples. I now make sure I fast daily for at least 12 hours. Easy really because I eat  my last meal around 7pm, and then don’t eat again until the morning. Sometimes a fast can last as long as 14-16 hours, but it’s stopped food cravings and stopped my life being ruled by food.

Ah Flossie, I was at the Dr yesterday as I have diverticulitis and it plays up a lot and the Dr gave me the name of a book by Michael Mosley called Clever Guts,I've already read some of it online and it's fascinating  :)

Clever Guts is my go to.  Lots of hints and it explains how the digestive system works from top to bottom in that how long foods might take to be digested and how.  Not to be read B4 a meal or in bed  ;D

My apron dropped so from above I look fatter, however, I didn't put on weight.  'Middle aged spread'  >:( due to a loss of oestrogen which is nature's elastic.

That's interesting, might get that book. Guts are weak area unfortunately. Top and bottom end, worse since peri. Defo a hormonal and stress related component. Plus I can't eat at all when anxious yet overeat when happy. Totally opposite to hubby. Wonder if the book covers meno related gut stuff too. I have been slowly putting on weight since January and started hrt. Plus now have extremely sweet tooth that I didn't have before. All very annoying and I am now at the point I have to do something about it.

Hope so. I drop weight so quickly when anxiety, tummy flat in two days but I also feel lightheaded and unwell when like that as I live on bananas as they are quickcto grab and easy to digest! Gone from very underweight at end of year due to chronic anxiety in 2022 to bordering on overnight now. Well I feel and look overweight now even if scales still say I am normal weight / BMI. I'm like an apple shape now, it isn't comfortable.

Ha, sounds like me, and skinny arms too. Although the estrogel has puffed my thighs up a bit. They are puffy rather than fat if that makes sense? Goes down when I start the utrogestan. Usual diet rules just don't seem to apply with hrt. I used to start diet when  I got my period and had no appetite and I'd be well underway by mid cycle when it got harder as I was hungrier. Now I'm hungry all month long!!!

It's so long since I read it I really can't remember  ::) but, as with 'me and my menopausal vagina', is a good book for the shelf.

It’s certainly fascinating. In the last year, although I haven’t lost weight the belly fat seems to have redistributed to where it should be.

Me too. I've never had a fat belly. Could always wear what I wanted. I was in a bikini up to being 62. I blamed it on covid restrictions but it's probably estrogen loss. I weigh 54 kilos yet got fat on my belly. I hate it. If only I could push some up to my boobs and face.
