Hi,
Sorry it's a bit of  clinical thread but I'm hoping someone may know.
I've had swabs done to rule out PID as been having recurrent UTIs .
The swabs for PID main causes came back negative but lab report shows candida and gram positive cocci.
GP   says treat for thrush but was inconclusive about the positive cocci. I've googled ( obvs)
And it suggests BV but I have no discharge- dry if anything !
Getting stressy now incase this is an infection,GP didn't seem over worried but did an internal to check all healthy, which it is. Internal yesterday so having pelvic ache now as well.
I don't like it when GP is vague it starts my " what if " anxiety off !!

Hi Orba
I worked in a microbiology lab (albeit quite a few years ago.
There should have been a culture result with it
What you have said is probably just a slide that your swab has been wiped across and then stained.
Gram positive cocci reported on a vaginal swab doesn’t mean anything conclusive and definitely not BV which if my memory serves me right would show a mix of bacteria indicating an overgrowth.
Ask the GP to explain and enquire about the culture result - was it done?
You may find after you’ve finished your thrush treatment all is ok
Above all don’t worry

Thanks Flutter by.
I'm not sure how  to put a pic of results from my app on here but if I copy the results from it this is what it says-
Gram stain ::++ Gram pos cocci
                      : + Yeasts
WET FILM :: + Epithelial cells
                     : yeasts seen
                      : TV not seen

CULTURE : usual bacterial flora with 1) candida sp isolated
                                                                 2) +++ mixed anaerobes

I'm treating myself for thrush anyway.
Had an internal on Friday which was normal but have had quite severe burning pelvic pain since.
I ended up seeing an OOH nurse today who has given me a course of metronidazole for a week incase it's an infection causing my pain.
I've had a lot of UTIs recently which has caused a lot of pelvic discomfort so it's all a bit of a grey area I'm in !!!
I will do another swab after antibiotics.
Thanks if your reading 😊

So they’ve grown and seen a few Candida species/ yeast cells. No Trichomonas vaginalis seen.
Metronidazole is used for anaerobic infections so if mixed anaerobes reported are actually causing an infection it should help.
Remember not to have any alcohol at all with it, not even a mouthful. I’m sure that the nurse will have told you that

Yes thanks. Although I hardly drink anyway but I do remember this advice from my Dental training days. I know one thing it makes me feel sick but all for the greater good - I hope !! X
