Degenerative Scoliosis anyone?
« on: August 04, 2023, 09:23:37 PM »

Hi there Ladies!

Is anyone here with Degenerative Scoliosis? What do you do about it?

After months of complaining about my back and hip pain, and difficulties walking, I got xrays, DXA, MRI, CT all confirming it.
Trouble is the NHS does nothing until surgery is needed, and of course, I don't want it to get there. It bends and twists my upper back, itself is in L3 &4 area (+ Osteopenia in L1 & 2).. Before this diagnosis I went to Chiropractor who pushed it, then Physio gave wrong exercises, then had Covid with non stop cough for two weeks... I tried Isteopaths but they are only after money, ready to do what that Chiro did..No, thanks!

I do Pilates once a week now, and control posture most times, but I can feel it still progress...  Am waiting for osteporosis physio...5 mnths now..

Any thoughts? ..I run out..

Hi orrla. I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis and can appreciate your frustration. Have you spoken to anyone at the Scoliosis Association? There is lots of info on their website https://sauk.org.uk/types-of-scoliosis/adult-degenerative-scoliosis/.

Hi Taz,

Thanks!

I know what it is. I want to know what to do in my case, and what others do that helped..in stopping it, preventing it collapse further.

I have no idea how it will progress...what to expect. Will I be able to walk next year? ..etc., etc.

Google bangs on about painkillers, I am not there yet..

So far it's like some Meno2 ! .. I am not getting answers re my own case... yet..?

How to prevent the worst..?

Just had CT scan, so week or two will see that surgeon who send me there, after MRI.. Fingers crossed he's got brain..not like my GP who recommended yoga... And nearly two years ago claimed it must be osteo-artritis.. and referred to that physio who banged on that I am old so I must hurt because he is way younger and his body hurts too..

Oh, I'll tell you, it's like the Meno again!!!

I just meant that the treatments are all shown on the scoliosis website. How it progresses etc. You might get some answers to your questions. Do you know your Cob angle as this seems to determine treatment?

Yes, I know. And, thanks!

No, I do not know. Must wait for that surgeon response to see. Perhaps that's what CT will show.. Letter said there is some swollen nerve inside of my chest.. Organs are getting less and less room on one side..
Contacted the Association, they gave me three names in Edinburgh... Must read yet a new study about corsets. Apparently they print 3D ones now just don't know yet how to get my hands on such..

I'm glad you have been given some names. It sounds as if you are doing all that you can at the moment.

I would contact Scoliosis SOS. They run intensive physio courses and can make a big difference to the curves/ back pain etc.

This looks really good. You could do the virtual therapy orrla if you don't want to travel. I wonder how much it costs?

Yes, Taz. I need to sit down yet and analyse but, even if I'll need to go for one night to, say, Manchester, for them to see my body to assess, I could continue online, it says. Brilliant!

Body is bit like that theatre puppet. One needs to know which strings to pull, for it to work well, which way. You'll pull a wrong one and that's it. Irreversible!

I am hopeful!

Thanks Ladies! 🤗
