Vagifem burning / heat
« on: July 17, 2023, 07:00:14 AM »

Hi
I'm half way through loading dose of vagifum, well mine is called vagirux I think, but same thing I'm told. I've paused for a few day as having my period but don't know whether to continue taking it or not. After each morning insertion I have had a feeling of burning/ heat every day and just a feeling that I'm very aware of my vagina as I'm moving around, sitting etc. Is this normal when first starting? It didn't feel bad enough to stop but at the same time wasn't comfortable either. Does it mean it's doing its job? I also feel that my period is much heavier this month and wondering if the vagifem could have caused this.

I don't get any burning feeling with vagirux, but there is some irritation after a few days using it, more an itch for me.

It could be a sign it's working and the nerves are coming back to life after a deep sleep?

If U keep to your original thread any responses won't get lost as the pages move down.

Sometimes VA treatment can aggravate, usually due to the vaginal tissues being dry and sore.  After 2-3 weeks the tissues will plump up making insertion easier.

Occasionally ladies are sensitive to the fillers or packaging.

Thanks. Insertion is easy, perhaps it is just I need to give it all a bit more time as i thimk it has been dry in there awhile. Is there any way of knowing whether it is working? Would it just be the feeling of constantly being aware of it going?
Thank you

U will know when it begins to work.  As long as you use it appropriately and continue after symptoms ease you should remain comfortable.

One thing I have noticed about the vagifem pessary is how hard it is and how very dry it feels up there as it dissolves. It's working brilliantly for me but I do use a feminine moisturiser too and I am sure it makes all the difference to how it makes me feel around that area.

Saying that, there have been a few posts on here regarding vagirux, some find when they have been prescribed vagirux instead of their usual vagifem, they have noticed side effects.  Something to keep an eye on as you continue with the treatment.

Thanks Ayesha. I have a moisturiser called Sylc which I use on the outside. Do you use yours on the inside then too? Can you do that at same time as putting the vagifem in? Mine isn't even a pessary as such, just a  small white circular tablet.
I thought I was being prescribed vagifem but the box said vagirux when I picked it up from the pharmacy. My pharmacist is great, so if it continues I'll see if I can try the vagifem instead.

Yes, I use Sylc too and on the inside. It just makes me feel much more comfortable.

To answer your question re when will I know it's working, It's when you can go about your usual day to day life without your vagina getting in the way of your feelings and thoughts, a kind of out of sight out of mind thing.

That is good to know thank you. Just waiting for this period to ease off before continuing with the loading dose. Also can I ask do you use it morning or evening? My ideal would be to do evening when I'm not on the utrogestan as I'll be lying down already, but I wouldn't want it to keep me awake.

I use 1 vagifem every morning with moisturiser and ovestin used topically, the ovestin and moisturiser I use morning and night.
I have been doing this daily for two years, unfortunately I have tried to reduce the dose but my VA easily flares up again if I do.

Thanks, maybe I'll just stick to morning then. I'm not using Ovestin yet, just Sylc. But I'm going to ask for it when I have my GP appointment to get the vagifem on repeat.
