Dizziness (any advise welcome)
« on: July 08, 2023, 03:32:10 PM »

Hi I’m interested to hear if anyone’s experienced dizziness and had any success with treating it
I keep a diary and it’s worse 1week before, during and a few days after my period and can be accompanied with anxiety and nocturnal panic attacks
I’m 51 with regular but heavier than usual menstrual periods , have no other symptoms other than forgetfulness and have taken Menopace Max for 4 months as a natural approach was preferred prior to maybe trying HRT
I’ve cut out caffeine & alcohol (kill me now 😢) & am slim, fit and active
All tests and scans have come back normal which alleviate underlying health conditions
Any and all advice welcome 🙏

Sounds peri-menopause to me.

Many find that they have to drop alcohol due to reactions.  ::).  As we age, with a loss of oestrogen, the body may become dry: inside and out, as well as muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  So if for example your cervical spine is affected, if you move your head: as with myself : you may find a slight 'oh' dizzy feelings.

It may be low blood sugar, so going through your over all 24 hour diet may help.  Keeping track for 5 days, to see if a pattern forms.  No cheating ;-).  Heavy bleeding may cause a feeling of light headedness.  When do these 'moments' happen?

Thankyou
Yes a sniff of alcohol and I feel on edge and anxious!, I thought cutting out caffeine might lessen any Palpatations, not sure it helps but gosh I miss my real tea morning cuppa !!
These dizzy ‘episodes’ seem random and can last all morning or afternoon,  are worse when I’m in motion and often accompanied by a morning sickness type nausea
They also go away as randomly
I’m a grazer so keep a constant healthy (ish) diet and sugar level and also take iron supplements for 1 week  when menstruating as my iron level blood test was borderline low
Ive also been prescribed prochlorperazine which eases the symptoms however it does concern me that I’m just glazing over it as opposed to treating the actual cause
Thankyou for replying x

I know the moment that my eyes open if I'm getting vertigo  >:(.  I daren't move!  I have medication for that too, though it's years out of date.  Fortunately.

Thankyou @jaypo
I’ve had extensive balance tests with an ENT specialist but will definitely follow up to ask if this test was done too as there are similarities in symptoms x

Hi,

The heavy periods are a sign your progesterone levels are in decline. It’s often the first hormone to dive off a cliff in peri menopause. I had the same dizziness you describe and it was because the heavy periods were making me anaemic. I now take high dose ferrous fumarate tablets everyday and the dizziness etc has gone away, tinnitus too (in case you are getting tinnitus).

Another option is a Mirena. I declined one for years, preferring to go down a natural route but I wish I had just gone for it. It would’ve solved all my issues with heavy periods which became more frequent, the dizziness etc.

Yes, if periods are getting heavier need to pay attention to progesterone level, usually in peri progesterone drops first. I was dizzy as well, but my blood test didn’t show anaemia, I was prescribed with ferrous fumarate tablets as well as  with tablets for reducing bleedings, but nothing helped me until Mirena was fitted.
