Tearfulness
« on: July 02, 2023, 03:10:48 PM »

I recently changed from utrogestan to medroxyprogesterone due to supply issues with the former. Since taking the provera I have had tender breasts and chronic tearfulness -- I cry most days and there are times I feel like I have no more tears to give. I can only describe the emotions as being similar to grief. Has anyone else had this on provera? Or is it a menopausal symptom?

I'm not "grieving" for my younger self -- been there done that, six years ago. I am six years post-menopause and thought, hoped, I'd experienced all the bad stuff I was going to. I thought I knew what to expect by this point!

Have a  :bighug:  I don't take HRT so hopefully someone will be along.  Definitely the regime if you were OK previously.  Many have problems with the 2nd stage of treatment, i.e. progesterone.

Strangely enough, I didn't feel as good when I was forced to take provera - no tender breasts or tearfulness but defo a bit "low". I was glad when the utrogestan came back into stock. Both products allow me to sleep well during the night, albeit with vivid dreams 😴 but definitely experienced a dip in mood on Provera - no idea why  ??? - maybe because it's synthetic??

Hello Antigone and welcome to the forum.

Tearfulness is one of my post meno problems and you have my sympathy. I was never much of a cryer when younger so this weepiness feels very strange even though I have been experiencing it for a long time now.

I have taken Utrogestan in the past both orally and vaginally and I although I was tearful I was also using a much higher dose of Oestrogen which likely balanced things out a bit.

I have been using a different progesterone for about a year now, it is called Cyclogest and is a wax pessary that it usually used for fertility treatment. My experience so far is that it is similar to Utrogestan so this may be an option for you.

Take care.
