Hi there
I have uterine fibroids that seem to be growing rapidly and evolving. Treatment recommended is medical menopause as I don’t qualify for surgery due to previous bowel surgeries.

Finding it hard to get any real info as to what medical menopause actually entails! Any advice, info or personal stories welcomed.
Many thanks  :)

Perhaps ask them? It sounds as though they intend to kill off or remove your ovaries but it's usually better to remove your womb and keep your ovaries. In what way do you not qualify for it?

Hi LucyL. Medical menopause is usually where drugs are given to shut down your ovaries. Oestrogen causes fibroids to grow so by removing it they should begin to shrink. Surgical menopause is where the ovaries are removed which is permanent. There is info here on the various fibroid treatments https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/fibroids/treatment/. Please let us know how you get on
