Sweats, brainfog and HRT side effects
« on: May 27, 2023, 07:11:07 PM »

Hi all

First time poster so bear with me.

I'm post menopausal and started HRT with Kliofem 3 years ago which gave me annual bleeds; tabs replaced with Everol conti patches which were ok for a while, then Ultrogestan tabs added October last year which triggered depression.

Was on Fluoxetine last month which killed my appetite and lost lots of weight.  Currently not on any medication and experiencing hot flushes  which co-incided with starting Fluoxetine.

Not keen on HRT but would potentially go back to patches to stop the flushes which were mainly overnight, but happening during the day now with the warmer weather.

Have been off work with low mood and brain fog.  Really need something to reverse/fix the brainfog and stop the flushes so my confidence can return.  Anyone else had a similar experience?

Hello Solost and a warm welcome to the forum. You have had a rotten time lately havent you.  :( It sounds like you may have had a bad reaction to Fluoxetine. I am unable to tolerate it too. Some members find venlaflaxine helpful for hot flushes and it is also an antidepressant. This may be something you would like to try as it could potentially help your low mood too.

I have found HRT so helpful for brain fog. Although you have had a bad reaction to the two different HRT types you have tried, please do not let that put you off as it can take a while to find one that suits. If you wish to look, here is a link which explains all the different HRT preparations.

Hi Flossieteacake

Thanks for the info link and for your reply.  I was starting to give up hope as getting the right medication unfortunately seems to be based on trial and error.

I'm planning on seeing my GP again early next week so will hopefully be able to explore other options that might be a better match, especially after reading the link you posted.

Why did they add utrogeston if you were already on evorel conti which contains it's own progesterone? If you were OK on this before perhaps you could go back on it?
