Breast Pain
« on: August 22, 2022, 09:49:48 AM »

Hi Everyone  :)

I'm new to the forum and have been suffering with the peri-menopause for about a year (at least I think!)

I started HRT just over 3 months ago, I'm taking 2 pumps of Oestrogel every day and Progesterone 2 tablets 14 days on 14 days off.

The benefits I felt so far are a reduction in my anxiety and hip pain.  I had previously felt like I needed two new hips it was so bad!

The biggest side effect has been breast pain, it started two weeks into the HRT and has been on and off ever since.  The worst a few weeks ago was so bad I thought I'd probably have to stop HRT, it literally felt like I'd scraped my breast down a brick wall  :'(  most of the discomfort is now concentrated on my left breast, I have read this can happen where one hurts more than the other.

My question to the lovely ladies on here who have suffered with this side effect is; how long did it last? please tell me that it does go away.... I spoke to a clinician at my GP surgery the other day and she suggested star flower supplements.  Has anyone else tried these and did they help at all.

Thank you  :)

Hello CharlieAngel. Welcome to the forum. It is wonderful to hear the HRT has helped with your hip pain. I too have had breast pain from taking HRT. Mine was very bad for several months and now I get tenderness that comes and goes. I am sorry to hear how much pain you are in. It is horrible.

Just to say, it may help to change your bra. I have found I now need a bra with more support then I used to. :)

 :welcomemm:

Hopefully this breast pain will reduce once your body becomes used to the HRT.  Have U tried taking pain relief?

85% of women are wearing the wrong sized bra.  However, when I was measured in 3 different shops on the same day, I was told 3 different sizes  ::)

It does usually settle in time but if you find it unbearable you could reduce the oestrogen and work up slowly.

Thank you so much for your replies ladies  :)  It's good to know I'm not alone with this.  My breast pain hasn't been too bad in the last few days but I'm due to start the next lot of prog. next week so will see what happens, fingers crossed  :boobs:

Hi there, I’m wondering how everyone’s breast pain is now?
I have been checked st breast clinic twice last year, had two mammograms and an ultrasound and stopped HRT as was told contributing to my lumpy nodular breast cysts on left side. The pain is still there constantly now and I have creepy crawly sensations all over my back and upper chest. Since I stopped HRT in January this has gotten worse and now I’m having flashes again and anxiety. I have no idea what to do for the best now.
I’m 59 and post meno since 2009, tibilone for 8 years.
Would really appreciate some advice and to hear from girls who gave experiences similar to mine

Hi
I don't have exact same experience, but I was wondering if the pain is definitely in your breast and not possibly chest wall muscle  pain? They can feel similar, and I was thinking of that given you are getting the sensations in your back too, could it be muscle / tendon / nerve related instead?

Thanks penguin for your reply.
Funnily enough I was back at GP yesterday and he also thinks that this could be nerve related. He has given me amitriptyline to try to get some relief so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
I think I had such a scare last year that it’s making me terrified that they’ve missed something. Doctor was quite reassuring and said that having two clear mammograms 6 months apart when I had symptoms then  should give me comfort.
Fingers crossed 🤞
