Hi

So I have been taking utrogestan for 12 days 2 x 100mg and stopped on Friday. Ive had terrible gastric issues every morning since starting it and suicidal thoughts, very emotional and teary. Im now back on sandrena gel and no gastric problems this morning ! And thoughts not dark. Has anyone else suffered this on Utrogestan and does the side effect stop?
Additionally I read up on this HRT and it says if you have a history of depression not to take it! Why did my GP prescribe me this when I have a past suffering depression and on Ads??? I am so angry.
I asked for bio identical progesterone as evorel conti gave me awful side effects too many severe headache, extreme tiredness and severe bloating.
Is there any other bio identical progesterone? I think I am peri but due to being on contraceptive implant I don't bleed.
Wish my meno specialist appointment would hurry up! This is month 1 of new HRT. Gel seems to suit me hot flushes stopped, brain fog lifted slightly enough to function
 Just unsure about Utrogestan with my history and can't cope with another 12 days of gastric/teary/ dark thoughts again.
I have an appointment with Gp on Wednesday and I know she will probably tell me to stop HRT and stick with Ads but the early morning surge of anxiety and panic seems to be going this is 1st morning its not happened and I cant bare for that to return

Ultrogestan can cause suicidal thoughts and the person to feel depressed. I am really sorry you are feeling so bad. There are other progesterone options and perhaps one of those will be better for you.

What I notice is the progesterone can be a problem for people with depression or other mental health issues. If you put ultrogestan into the search bar you will find quite a few threads on members feeling depressed taking it.

Is it possible for you to take the mini pill because 2 Desogestrel a day can be used as the progesterone part of HRT. I am so sorry you are feeling so bad. Some members find Provera is better tolerated too.

Utrogestan is biodentical progesterone. Many of us struggle with it unfortunately, there are lots of posts about it on here if you type it into the search box at the top of the page. It seems for some of us progesterone is the problem whether it’s biodentical or not.

Lot’s of us take it sequentially for a minimum period so less time on it equals less side effects.

Other progs are provera and cyclogest. Once again type into the search box for others experiences.

Are you using the utrogestan orally? I have only ever used it vaginally but I have heard of ladies having tummy issues with it orally given it needs to be taken on an empty tummy. I avoid putting things through my digestive system where possible as I previously had a bad case of gastritis and only take things orally if I can eat beforehand. I wonder if that might help you.

Have you thought about  having a mirena coil fitted?  The hormone released is far less than utrogestan and only released into the womb?

I think progesterone is a pain for many women. The progesterone in femeston is meant to be quite good.

I hope you find a way forward soon, you are having such a tough old time x

Thank you for replying.
I am currently on the contraceptive implant so don't see why that cant be the progesterone element instead. I will be telling the Gp on wed just how low I felt on Utrogestan as she as the medical professional should have advised a diff progesterone based on my history  I may just give the HRT up until my meno appointment whenever that may be as if I had acted on the thoughts I would not be here now!

Hi hunni Thankyou I will check other posts. My Gp is very in the dark about HRT and I wish I had the money to pay private. I was told 6 months wait to see meno specialist almost 2 months elapsed. Should get allocated appointment by end of May although actual appointment might not be at least another 2 months away.

Yes orally but I am concerned about the side effects of depression as I suffer that already on and off.

Hope your ok hunni. Happy belated birthday btw read on another post.  Is Femeston patches? And bio id? As I am sensitive to synthetic. Im on contraceptive implant and that releases progesterone so need a medical professional to advise if thats suitable as my GP doesn't have a clue. I would consider mirena just scared I guess as if doesnt suit. I have 2 more years on implant as lasts 3 years. Just confused about what to do

Ah I didn’t know that the implant released progesterone too. That would solve all your issues if you could just stay on that and ditch the utrogestan. Maybe you are getting too much p then?

What about emailing Dr Currie on here ? She may have an answer for you.

The progesterone in femeston is very gentle and body identical ( I think 🤔) it begins with a d and ends with an l. Femeston comes in tablet form only.

Bloody progesterone. It’s a right royal pain in the bum! Xxx

Yes I  have told my Gp about the implant releasing progesterone but she seems baffled about whether its sufficient.
Thats a good suggestion about asking Dr Currie sorry to be thick but how do I contact her and does she charge a fee? Ive managed to find some info on the net to say that there is no evidence re whether the progesterone in implant is sufficient for protection this is disappointing but I will contact Dr Currie to confirm

Well I had progesterone vaginally added 2 weeks ago for bloating but can’t stand the headache and change in mood so I have stopped it. I have the coil. I’m on oestrogen 25 patch down from 50 as my boobs were so painful and I was bloated so despite my oestrogen being in the normal range on bloods my symptoms were showing oestrogen dominance. I had a low progesterone on my bloods but I can’t stand the  headaches and low mood on it. Boobs feeling better today. I didn’t sleep much last night took brufen 400 and headache has eased and I took a good walk. I’ll see what this week brings on this new arrangement. I’m sick of the weight gain so
Looking at options for that!

Need some advice considering that Utrogestan is not recommended if you suffer depression which I do should I carry on for another 2 months to see how things go or ask my Gp for another bio id progesterone as synthetic gives me bad side effects. I have an appointment with GP on Wednesday and have to tell her what I need as she has no idea of HRT.
I am just so fed up not sure what other bio id progesterone there is couldn't find another one for peri
