Desperate and in need of some help please
« on: May 19, 2023, 06:22:13 AM »

I really could do with some help from you lovely ladies.

I started hrt last august to help with tinnitus, insomnia and chronic anxiety.

My sleep had previously always been really really good. I'd been on gel from last november and utrogestan.

My sleep has never been really good since I've been on hrt but a bit better; I had been experimenting with the way I was taking the utrogestan, I had been taking it vaginally at night, then I tried taking it orally to see if it would help my sleep. It didn't really so on the 1st May, I had a three day break from the utrogestan to try and 'reset' my system. On those 3 nights I didn't take the utro I slept well, so then I started taking it vaginally but in the mornings and for about 12 nights I slept well. However on about the 12th day I started having a bleed (my womb lining was just checked last November time and everything was fine) so I have just recently started taking it orally again, thinking that maybe taking it vaginally in the morning it wasn't being absorbed and maybe that was causing the bleed.

However my sleep the last few nights has gone back to the way it was last august in as much as I'm lying awake for  literally hours on end, falling asleep in the early hours.

I really cannot go back to those dark days and this is really pushing me and my lovely hubby over the edge.

I'm already on 3 pumps of gel and I don't want to increase to 4 pumps of gel.

Does anyone have any ideas. Is it the change in the way I've been taking the utro, do I need more gel or what.

Thanks so much any advice would be gratefully received xx

Have they recently checked thyroid at all?

I think I had better sleep with 200 daily utro. I’m on 25/28 at my request but thinking I’ll just go continuously as I can’t cope with the “withdrawal!”

Have you tried taking it orally at a different time? I’ve read of some women being told to try taking it in the morning- iirc Dr Curry suggested that to one woman here.,

Hi Clarella

I had my bloods done, in November, estrogen levels were 288 and I think my thyroid was fine, well nothing was flagged up by my gp.

I haven't taken 200 of utrogestan as I believed it was only 100, and yes I am considering trialling it taking it in the mornings to see if it helps.

thanks so much for your reply, I appreciate it xx

Hi any break in taking Utrogestan can cause bleeding. I forgot to take one and I had bleeding a few days later.

If you’ve still got symptoms then you probably need more oestrogen. x

Hi Dotty

Thanks for your reply.

I was wondering whether I needed more estrogen but the last time I tried to up my estrogen to four pumps I felt wired and my boobs were massive and hot. I researched and discovered that my hrt estrogen was probably too high.

For the last couple of months I felt good on the 3 pumps which is why I wondered if the utro could have been causing the sleep issues. I was wondering since taking it vaginally in the mornings if my estrogen/utrogestan ratio is out.

Also, Dotty, could I suddenly need an increase in my estrogen?

Long cycle sequi? I prefer a bleed to utro side effects. Or try rectally and see if it's any different.

Sorry, I hadn't seen it. I haven't used it rectally yet but I think I'll try it next cycle. For long cycle sequi I take 200mgx12 days utro in each 6 week cycle. If you take it rectally let me know how you get on.

and how does it affect your sleep as when i take it orally at night it seems to have the opposite effect

Hi yes you could suddenly need more oestrogen as your own levels drop.

Your sleep problems may not be due to low oestrogen. x

That's right, I use the same dose as 'normal' sequi but instead of 12 days per 28 day cycle it's per 42 day cycle. For me vaginally my sleep is worse - hard to get to sleep and easily woken up, orally i go to sleep more quickly and don't wake up when OH gets up in the night. I changed because it gave me thrush but it's nice there's no mess. Both ways leave me half asleep in the day so it'll be interesting to see if rectal does too.

hi sheila99

thanks so much for explaining that. at leadt that is one other option. the only isdue is it seems either vaginal or oral use at night really disrupts my sleep. i am trying it vaginally in the mornings. i was worried about aborption during the day but i found some documents albeit for use in fertlility treatments which indicates that once the capsule is inserted vaginally it dissolves and there is no need to remain sitting or lying down
however i am going to clarify with dr currie and i will report back x

i will try and post the link of the document ive found if i can xx
