Hello! I’m new. Tibolone?
« on: May 09, 2023, 11:20:50 AM »

Hello everyone. I’m new here and have been browsing for a while. So much great information here!

I’m 47. My periods have been very erratic for two years and I haven’t had a bleed for four months now.
Last year, after a two month long episode of flooding I had an ultrasound, a D&C and hysteroscopy to rule out anything sinister. All was fine, my gynae deduced that the bleeding was hormonal and it hasn’t happened since, in fact any bleeding I’ve had since has been very scant.

I told my gynae about my aches and pains, getting hot at night and total lack of libido. I also told her about how I do not get along with progesterone at all. I had a very bad experience with the minipill in the past and even on the combined pill in my twenties my mood was not good.
I was also diagnosed with PMDD about 10 years ago, which followed a severe bout of PND. So I’ve been adamant about avoiding a Mirena for years, to be honest I’d rather suffering flooding than the horrific depths I felt on Cerazette.

My gynae suggested Livial for me and I told her I’d think about it.
Has anybody with progesterone intolerance tried this, and how did it go?

I should add that I’ve been taking an SSRI for years now so part of me is wondering if that would help counter a potential low mood from a continuous HRT like Livial?

Hi. Livial is usually for post menopausal women which is defined as at least twelve months without a period. You might like to ask your gynae about this. If you put tibolone or livial into the search box it will bring up related posts. There are others on this type of HRT.

I can't help with the progesterone intolerance part but I'm sure someone else will answer that soon.

Thank you Taz!
I’ll have a look around to hopefully find some info on Livial. I don’t know if I’m unusual in having a fear of progesterone effects. I think that’s why the gynae suggested it to me.
She’s very thorough, I’ll give her that. Insists I need a mammogram ahead of any HRT on top of the investigations I’ve already had.

Hi Eva,

I tried Tibolone in January. It made me instantly depressed and I had to stop taking it at day 8 as I was feeling nearly suicidal and was a bed ridden blubbering mess. I have a terrible progesterone sensitivity and was prescribed this by a gyne specialist.

I'm feeling really hopeless...

Oh I’m so sorry about that. It sounds like it was a nightmare for you.
