endometrial hyperplasia on HRT
« on: May 08, 2023, 08:27:35 PM »

Hi there

I've just had a scan and biopsy and have a 10mm thick womb lining.

I'm in perimenopause and have been on HRT (2g sandrena, Morena coil and a very small dose.of testosterone) for 18 months and have felt brilliant. I went for the scan due to a small bleed...

The results take a couple.of weeks and I'm waiting for a go appointment and in the meantime I was wondering is this caused by too much estrogen and should I be thinking of reducing my estrogen? Does anyone have any experience of this and any advice to offer?

My hormone bloods showed a low level of estrogen 6 months ago so my 1.5g Sandrena was increased to 2g (consultation with private clinic). I wonder if being in peri still means estrogen is still fluctuating and isn't low all the time and this wasn't needed. I also thought that the Mirena coil prevented womb thickening...

Many thanks 🙏

If you feel brilliant, I wouldn't reduce the estrogen - but increase the progesterone. Just because you have a Mirena, doesn't mean you can't also have utrogestan as well. (Unless you can't tolerate it?)

I thought the mirena was pretty good at keeping the lining thin too but 10mm if you don't bleed is a bit concerning. Is it possible it's coming to the end of it's lifespan? Your oestrogen will be fluctuating and this is why the nhs goes on symptoms not blood levels and you're supposed to be on the lowest amount that controls your symptoms. Perhaps reduce by small amounts and see how you feel?

Hi

I’ve just had the same. My womb lining is 11mm. Biopsy came back normal.
Consultant said some women have a naturally thicker womb lining.

They don't normally check it before you go on hrt though so probably you wouldn't know if yours was naturally thick or not. I was told it should be max 4mm so it's quite a big difference.
