Thin endometrium lining…confused.
« on: May 06, 2023, 03:32:39 PM »

Hi All,
I hope someone might be able to help who may have been in a similar situation. I had a hysteroscopy last month, due to some breakthrough bleeding. Nothing untoward was found, but I received the consultant’s letter today and one of the things she said was I had an atrophic endometrium.

I admit I had to look it up and it said it was a thin lining of the uterus, which post menopausal woman have and is due to not enough Estrogen. However, I’m on HRT and she knew that. She suggested after I had the hysteroscopy that due to being on Evorel 75 and Utrogestan 100mg that I should double the utrogestan to 200, which I have been doing. I don’t feel any better, in fact I feel a bit more anxious, but I wondered if I’d been imagining it, but now I’m not so sure. I’m on continuous HRT.

When I first went on patches, I increased from 35, to 50 to 75 mcg. I’ve been in 75 for about a year, but before that 35-50 for about 5-6 months. I had an estradiol test after that time and it showed me Estrogen levels were low at 112, so I upped to the 75 but I haven’t had a test since. I tried Estradot initially but didn’t absorb well from it, so I have been on Evorel 75 since that time. I’m wondering now if I have ever really absorbed Estrogen very well at all and I’m now thinking my levels must still be very low. I place my patches on my bottom now and have been for quite a while, as I originally put them in my bottom stomach.

I’m now thinking that increasing the progesterone really can’t be helping abd probably making my situation worse? Or do you think I’ve got it wrong? . I’m sleeping better but that’s about it. I feel more anxious if anything.

I have an appointment with my GP on the 18th and was going to ask fior an estradiol blood test to see if I have actually got better levels. If I haven’t, what would you ladies suggest I do? Has anyone been in a similar position with not absorbing Estrogen very well? I don’t get on with tablets unfortunately as I felt very bloated. If there are ladies out there who didn’t absorb from patches very well ( which I seriously think is the case with me) did you try Estrogel instead and was it better? Or anything else?

I wonder why she told me to increase the progesterone, if she knew my Estrogen was low?  Also I’ve had further bleeding, since upping the progesterone. Not as bad, ( lasted a week instead of a fortnight).

Thankyou,

Teresa

I would reduce the progesterone as you may be bleeding because it's too thin. Even the 100mg daily may be too much if you're not absorbing oestrogen. 100mg is usually considered adequate for up to 100 oestrogen. It would be worth trying gel but you may find you don't absorb that well either or you could increase to 100 patch.
