Disappointment after it was all going so well....
« on: April 20, 2023, 01:38:25 PM »

Hi

It has been a while since I used this forum, mainly because for the past 10 months everything has been perfect.
I am now 60 years old, and had no menopausal related problems until 2016.
I had a terrible time in 2021 to mid 2022 with many menopausal problems - mostly bladder related. I suffered from recurring UTI's the last one in June 21 causing me particular pain.
The discomfort would not subside and the doctor diagnosed a urethral caruncle. Six months later, a Urologist examined me and said it was actually a small polyp, which he eventually removed 4 months later. It was so small that he never believed that it was the cause of my discomfort.
For 2 months after the removal I was still in pain and was starting to believe him, when, all of a sudden, the discomfort was gone - it was bliss!!

I am using ovestin cream externally, vagifem internally, wash with Hydromol and moisturise with Epaderm. I was originally on HRT patches as well, but I have two fibroids which were growing, so the patches were stopped and the twice yearly scans I have to check on the fibroids show that they are now shrinking.

The vagifem and ovestin seem to do the trick, I use them both 5 nights a week (my doctor is fine with that), and they have kept everything under control until now.
All of a sudden, nine days ago, the stinging around my urethra started again and now I'm back in discomfort. The only way I can ever describe the feeling I have is soreness around the urethra (always left hand side where polyp was), and a rubbing sensation - like everything is too big, or (which makes me smile), as though there is a big trunk in my underwear just flapping about! Rub, rub, rub all the time!
Have seen the doctor today, and she has told me to use the vagifem and ovestin now every night for a month to see if things calm down - but couldn't answer the only question I had....why has it started again??? I have been so thorough with my regime.

Has anyone had similar problems?

Probably a stupid reply from me but since I have been suffering from hayfever over the last few weeks my VA has flared up, not to the chronic stage it was previously but its making me feel its presence. I'm thinking immune system causing this, could it be the same for you, just a thought!

I hope that it is something as simple as that!!

it's such a depressing feeling isn't it? Trying not to let it destroy me again this time though!

I think as your body ages more you are losing more oestrogen so that your usual regime no longer works.  I've noticed change after having some more sweats when i thought that they had gone now.

Is your 'trunk' feeling swelling do you think ?  I have got a bathroom magnifying mirror to monitor anything noticeably physical that might be changing.  I bought one that has a square frame around it so that i can hold it between the top my legs to check.  Sorry if too much info.  I'm not obsessive about it but it does help to monitor from time to time.

You may find it helpful to read up on pain management and coping methods to avoid going into the pits again.

Hope that your new regime works for you.

I'm not much good with anything else going on in my body now either.  I believe that the immune system is low for starters.  Pain also comes from the same place in the brain as emotions so stress adds another viscious circle which then needs breaking.

Thanks for that and I can relate completely to the mirror situation!  I'm always checking!!

I think it's more a case of everything around my urethra shrinking and it being exposed more.
As its exactly the same feeling as before.
I'm back at Dr's next Friday so will ask!

Funnily enough I too am experiencing more night sweats and very dry skin - wonder if its all related?
Thanks so much....food for thought!!
