Extreme side effects to Evorel conti
« on: April 08, 2023, 09:11:56 AM »

Hi Every one,

I was 1.5 months into Evorel sequi patches and found weeks 1 and 2 on Evorel 50 ok weeks 3 and 4 were horrendous. Severe headaches, extreme bloating and fatigue like I have never known. This is my first experience of HRT and I soldiered on 1st month as i just thought this was side effects that would settle eventually. However part way into the 2nd month I couldn't handle how I was feeling. After speaking to my GP she told me to remove the patch immediately. My symptoms calmed down after a couple of hours. I am so disheartened as the patches helped control my constant itchy skin and brain fog. And settled the anxiety I suffered first thing on a morning. Now I can feel it all creeping back  :'( :'(. My GP suggesting putting me on anti depressants which i refused and I am now waiting to see a meno expert- 6 month wait. I take wellwoman multi vits and been told Ashgawandha helps by a friend. Any suggestions Ladies as I am starting to struggle again insomnia is back too   :'( :'( :'( :'( and I am scared severe mood swings will return too

Hello Losingtheplot. I am sorry to hear you have had such a bad reaction but please do not worry. This does not mean you cannot take HRT. You could have reacted to the progesterone in Evorel Conti. I looked it up and the progesterone in it is norethisterone. This can cause side effects in some people. You can try a different type of HRT. There are still many more options to explore.

The itchy skin and brain fog are likely to be low oestrogen which is why the patches would have helped with these horrid symptoms. It is good your GP has referred you to a menopause clinic but what a shame they do not know there are other options. Have a look at this link as it explains all the different types of HRT you can take.

It may help to show this to your GP so they can prescribe you another type of HRT or you may want to choose one yourself and ask to try it.

Hi Flossieteacake

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and the information so kind of you.

Ive had symptoms for past 5 years and will soon be 48 years old. I am on the contraceptive implant too. The symptoms have been gradually getting worse as years go on and the worst has been severe mood swings and anger with emotional out bursts .... Just awful. I will read the link you have sent and have another appointment with GP coming up so will show it to her although she is lovely she really doesn't know a great deal. Thanks again xxx

As you are also on the contraception implant it could be you are taking too many things. I read the implant is progesterone so it sounds to me like you could be taking too much progesterone. I am no expert and could be totally wrong though. If you are okay with the implant then you may like to try the mirena coil as this can be used as the progesterone part of HRT. Then you would be able to use oestrogen in whichever form suits you such as patch or gel.

It is horrible to have these mood swings, anger and emotional outbursts. Please use this forum for support as the members on here are so supportive.

You have hit the nail on the head as I think exactly the same too much progesterone! My GP knew I was on the contraceptive implant. I am wondering if possible for me to keep the implant and have estrogen only HRT as I still have a womb I understand I need some progesterone still. Also I never bleed on the implant so have no idea if I still actually have periods or not. I am considering having it taken out to see how my body reacts as I am totally in the dark about my periods.
Thats very reassuring thank you I have read other posts on this forum and everyone seems so lovely and supportive. I hope you are keeping well xxxxxx

It is a good idea to discuss it with your GP. I hope they can help you with it.

I am well. You are sweet to ask. :)

Hi Sweetie,

Make a few notes before you speak with your g.p in case you get a bit flustered, write down single words that describe how you feel physically and mentally. Short words, so you keep calm and don't do like I do and ramble on aimlessly as there seems so much to say.

You are asking for help because you need it,take your time.
Big hugs to you x

Ahhh thank you so much this is excellent advice and so helpful - the single words never crossed my mind as I ramble very easily and then tend to confuse the situation so this way I can feel I am getting across what I want to.  I will ramble though I know what I am like  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D but I will try not to and stick to topic.
