Panic and despair- high oestrogen and testosterone levels
« on: April 06, 2023, 01:14:03 PM »

Hi all,

Panic mode!

Perimenopause. I'm on 50 estradot, 200mg progesterone and 0.35 of Androfeme.

I had a 3 month blood test since I started testosterone. I was told to start at 0.5 but I felt nervous so only started at 0.35.

Blood test result came back
High oestradiol (2999)
High testosterone (1.73. Upper limit was 1.62)
High shbg (195)
FAI and thyroid normal

Shbg has always been above normal but this is the highest yet. All these results are the highest they have been.

I'm panicked by them all especially testosterone and why it is high on low dose. I'd noticed breasts got larger which I assume is because oestrogen is high.

I've emailed doctor but with bank holiday, not sure what to do! Has anyone been in this situation? X

Were these results from a venous draw rather than a finger pin prick test?

Thank you. They were from venous draw.

To be honest with you I would stop the testosterone to start with. But I am not medically qualified, I just would not take it if it is not low. I think in perimenopause estrogen can have these spikes but I do not know in detail how high spikes go, what were your symptoms prior to starting HRT which prompted you to start HRT? You may not need testosterone and I believe testosterone can convert to estrogen. You do not have any history of PCOS? X I have the opposite problem of yourself - my testosterone and estrogen low even when on both, there are huge differences in peoples ability to absorb I believe and we will be at different points in this journey xx

Also I'm assuming that the progesterone 200 is for half of the month not every day?

Yes, progesterone is for half the month. GP replied to say she isn't concerned but I can reduce testosterone if I want and retest in a few weeks. I've decided to stop it though. It was low but I'd rather stop, see where oestrogen and testosterone is at after a few weeks. The hugh shbg is odd really.

Doesn't using hrt increase shgb?

My doctor says only oral oestrogen increased shbg. My shbg was high before hrt but is getting higher each blood test.

Oh yes. Sorry I missed the fact you were on transdermal. That's correct then. I've never had any of my levels tested so I have no idea what mine are or were! Hope you get an answer though.

Hi,  try not to panic about your blood results. In peri bloods are not reliable as we can have lots of spikes, I do. The Estradot dose you are on does not have that much Estrogen in it, so it will be a spike in  your own Estrogen.  You may only get 150-200 pmol from that size patch if that.
