Palpitations
« on: April 06, 2023, 02:14:58 PM »

Hello all,

Looking for some opinions. I'm 46, on month 2 of evorel sequi. Prior to starting hrt I have had periods of anxiety but also palpitations. My Gp felt along with other symptoms hrt would help. I have been logging my symptoms as suggested by my gp (I have hypertension and on meds). Right at day 14 or thereabouts of my cycle I struggle with bad anxiety and palpitations. I don't expect hrt to necessarily cure this but anyone else experience bad anxiety, palpitations and struggling with sleep from day 14 to start of my period? it really is quite obvious now I've been tracking.  Thanks

This happens to me on the progesterone, I was changed to continuous at 51 and 2 years later I have stopped the progesterone side to see if they stop and it's better. I think some women are intolerant to the progesterone and are more sensitive. The anxiety is awful. Am awaiting a referral as it's necessary to monitor progesterone to support womb health however at the moment I really dont want to put progesterone in my body . Do you feel ok on the oestragen patch? I used to call it good and bad patch as you can deffo tell a difference. Be mindful if they ever want to switch you to continuous as the symptoms can be continuous also. Hope you resolve this and inform doctor of your symptoms.

Thank you for your reply. I feel OK on the oestrogen patch it literally is just mid cycle to the start of my period. To be honest it was like this before my period, the anxiety and palpitations as well as other symptoms. It may be that the progesterone patch just exacerbates it. A colleague suggested a look at PMDD as perimenopause can again exacerbate it. No idea really but I am logging my symptoms and pre HRT I had the anxiety and palpitations etc.mid cycle so whilst the 1st month on HRT things felt a bit calmer in terms of palpitations and anxiety I am definitely back to square one again!

Hi Annie1210

Sorry to hear you are suffering with palpitations. I have had phases of them both before and during HRT. I am on gel and utrogestan on a sequi regime.

I had a really bad phase of palpitations before Christmas. Probably brought on by a number of external factors as well as my own shifting hormones. I spent a lot of time trying to work out what was causing it and came to the conclusion it was the balance between both oestrogen and progesterone, not necessarily one specific hormone.

It gets even more confusing because apparently anxiety and Palps can be caused by too much or too little oestrogen. As I was on 4 pumps of Oestrogel I went down to 3. I'm not sure if it was a co-incidence or just relief Christmas was over but by mid January my Palps had gone (for now!). I still get the odd flutter or big bang but it's nothing like it was before. If they start up again I will look to tweaking my oestrogen again. Have you considered going onto gel rather than patches as it's a bit easier to tweak? I hope things settle for you.
