That's fantastic, you should be proud. We all have fears that are very real to ourselves and can feel overwhelming. There are a lot of people here sending support, care and advice. Baby steps is fine, go at your pace. The important thing is you have begun the first step in gaining professional medical advise and help.

I know exactly how you feel MK94. I am also a health anxiety sufferer, it is truly the worst thing to have. I agree with other posters that it is very unlikely to be cervical cancer and it is great that you have found the courage to speak to the GP who can talk you through having an examination. Smears are so much better these days- I say this as someone who was so terrified I didnt have one for 13 years!!  You can also ask for a little bit of Valium to take prior to an internal (or have a couple of gin and tonics ) .  You need to speak to your GP about your health anxiety and maybe consider anti-depressant medication if you are not already taking some.
