Hello wonderig if anyone had any experience or knowledge and can help with my query?

I started HRT one week ago for peri menopause- am on cyclical progesterone and oestrogen gel.
I’ve been having frequent bleeding and one of the reasons I started HRT was to try and get this a bit less frequent and more regular. Unfortunately at the beginning of week 2 of taking progesterone I’ve had an even heavier and more painful period than usual. I’m worried that when I stop progesterone next week I’ll also bleed again- which is when I was meant to bleed.

Is this normal when starting HRT or should I contact the GP
? Would be grateful for any words of wisdom.

Hi it can take a while for your body to settle when you start hrt. x

Bleeding pattern also partly depends on where in menopause you are? How old you are, what your periods were doing before you started HRT etc, as well as the dose of oestrogen and progesterone. Perhaps you could tell us a bit more?

Thanks. I’m 42. I was bleeding every 3 weeks, sometimes more frequent. I’m taking oestrogel 1 pump and utrogestan 200mg /day. I’m perimenopausal.

I found my own cycle would always override the hrt one.

Ah that will be disappointing if that’s the case. Was your cycle 28 days long

Hi Polly, I'm 42 too anc perimenopausal. Also had heavy bleeding in second week or Utrogestan as well as PMS symptoms and awful backache. My menopause GP suggested I increase oestrogen during the progesterone phase and see if that makes me feel better.

Oh thank you that’s really useful to know! I’m only using one pump of oestrogel but can give up to 2 so might try that- thanks again! Hope it works for you 🤞
