Using steroid cream where you apply HRT
« on: January 04, 2023, 03:04:46 PM »

After 1.5 years of no problems using Lenzetto, over the last 3-4 months it has started giving me a nasty allergic rash on the inner arm where it's applied. I tried switching to applying it to the thigh and also tried switching to patches - both have failed miserably by causing a pretty swift return of my symptoms. I don't seem to absorb at all (or at least as well) elsewhere on the body as I do to the very thin skin on my inner arm.

I have had to go back to Lenzetto today and will need to use my Clobestal topical steroid cream that I'm already prescribed for something else on my inner arm to try and heal it. Has anyone heard about steroid creams interfering with HRT absorption when applied in the same area? I had a Google and came across one piece that said it did, but it wasn't an official study and didn't give any sources. I'll of course ask my GP too, but wondered if any other women here apply steroid cream to where they also apply HRT?

My final option is to try Oestrogel, but I really want to restabilise first before trying anything else, as this issue has caused me a lot of upheaval already. It's such a pain considering I do so well with Lenzetto in all other ways that my body has suddenly decided to become allergic to it  :(

I now have eczema due to  Estrogen and am suffering terribly.  I started reacting to Lenzetto and patches.  I use steroid cream, cetraben and hydromol and use Sandrena gel. I’ve become sensitive and I think the alcohol in the spray and gel dries the skin out even more.  I know that my skin improves if my othe meno symptoms improve.  Are you using any emollients?  I’m not aware of the hrt not absorbing on skin where steroid has been used.

Floo it sounds very similar to me.

In June I suddenly started suffering with horrendous urticaria of unknown origin - I was off work for weeks with it. I ended up having monthly Xolair injections which eventually got rid of it. I've stopped those now (you have to) and the urticaria hasn't returned but I have been left with a whole raft of othet histamine related problems, and after much symptom keeping and trial and error, I now know for certain that it's Estrogen causing it. I have terribly prickly skin in the evenings, insomnia, eczema on my face, flushed skin and specifically where I apply the Lenzetto a dermatitis type rash. If I either increase my HRT or ovulate, the problems worsen terribly. When I reduce my HRT they disappear... but then I immediately get horrendous low E night sweats and insomnia. I'm caught in this horrendous limbo  - it feels like there is too much Estrogen in my body and it's reacting against it and yet I can't lower my HRT without having withdrawal.

Do you have any other non skin type histamine symptoms or do you think yours is more an allergic reaction to the alcohol as you say?

Mine is all related to low Estrogen as my skin itch would only happen at the lowest part of my cycle but now the closer I get to meno and the lower my Estrogen goes my skin is dry, thin and fragile which is why I have now developed eczema.  I thought it was histamine related and chased that used but no it’s truly low Estrogen.  I still have the odd ups with my own Estrogen when symptoms improve along with my skin but they are just nice upward fluctuations that don’t last.  When Estrogen is low it causes all sorts of problems, it took me a while to work it out but I did thank fully as I was spending so much money chasing the histamine thing but at least I know now.

We become very inflammatory at this stage and can suffer with all sorts of stuff.

Have you had a proper diagnosis for your skin rashes? I saw dermatologist in the end.

Ah it sounds a bit different to me then Floo. Mine definitely gets worse either at ovulation when my Estrogen surges or if I try increasing my HRT.

The histamine problems or dry skin issues of low estrogen are such an added problem we have to deal with! Wishing you well xx
