Fibroids and HRT
« on: January 06, 2023, 02:11:45 PM »

Hi 👋🏼
I am Joload 47. Confirmed menopause aged 44 . Two years ago was diagnosed with large fibroid due to pressure felt down below when running during lock down. Almost like I had a kettlebell bouncing.
Awaiting a uterine artery embolisation since May 2020.
Symptoms of menopause now how sweats and massive brain fog.
I was originally told to wait for fibroid treatment before HRT but now I am thinking I have waited near on 3 years is it worth investigating.
Does anyone have any experience with fibroids and HRT? I have a GP appointment on 12 jan to discuss and want to go armed with info so am not fobbed off
Thanks in advance

Hrt can make fibroids grow. Waiting 3 years is appealing. Is there anything your gp could do to speed it up? It would be better to get it removed before you start hrt but I completely understand you feel you've waited long enough.

Hello Joload and welcome to the forum.

I am so sorry that you are still waiting for treatment.

Years ago and before the menopause I had a small fibroid which didn't require treatment. Later on when I wanted to begin HRT I worried that this would be a problem but it wasn't a concern. Fast forward a few more years and investigations for post meno bleeding revealed that the fibroid had disappeared and that was with HRT!

I have a friend who is also awaiting  similar treatment. She had an ablation about eight years ago but the fibroids have returned and unfortunately she can not have a hysterectomy due to scar tissue from Crohn's disease.

I read on a science site that experiments with green tea have proved effective for shrinking fibroids so my friend is going to give that a try. You may want to check out the research by looking at NutritionFacts.org.

Wishing you well.

Thanks for you reply. I will definitely look into the green tea.  I can feel it myself when laying on my front so is still there.  My GP has written to my consultant but all he said was he will review me in May 2023.  Frustrating but I understand the NHS strains right now.
