Anxiety
« on: December 09, 2022, 09:26:20 AM »

I’m asking this for a friend who is not on here but is suffering greatly with anxiety,
She is 59 and has been using Evorel Conti for around 4 years. Which have controlled her flushes etc. But she’s been feeling terrible anxiety she also has quite severe hair thinning.
On my recommendation she visited a menopause private GP as her Dr doesn’t seem to want to look into the possibility that she has low oestrogen or that the prog part of the patch is not suiting her.
She was told by the meno GP that as long as it’s controlling her symptoms then all is well with it and not to change. She’s never been offered a blood test to see her oestrogen levels or any alternative.
I feel she possibly needs to try a different regimen, possibly higher oestrogen and a a different progesterone, Utrogestan.
What’s your thoughts and opinions?
I am quite worried about her as she is suffering so much but is reluctant to go against the advice she’s been given.
Thank you :)

Was any consideration to the hair thinning which apparently can be caused by some forms of HRT.

Anxiety can be controlled with appropriate medication.  I used 'valium' successfully for several years.  My GP also prescribed Betablockas to ease surges.

Is there a specific time that this is more bothersome?

You are such a wonderful friend. I agree that she needs to tweak her HRT. i wonder why the private menopause DR did not look into things in more detail. I thought that would have been the first step.

The meno specialist recommended a thyroid test but dismissed the idea that it may be caused by her hrt patches or low hormones!
I feel dreadful for encouraging her to spend all that money on the consultation!
She is taking a low dose antidepressant, started recently but I’m not sure what and I don’t think it seems to be helping.

I wonder too, and feel awful for encouraging her to pay to see this specialist GP although it wasn’t someone I knew anything about. Other friends had seen her and she was local.
I have been to Newson and I think they are pretty proactive on the anxiety issue.
I don’t think that now she will spend on seeing someone else :(
I’m hoping that the lovely ladies on here with all their experience may sway her to look into it again………

It's a bit hit and miss, however spending money on our health when we are able, is important.

Does she keep a mood/food/symptom diary to chart progress, ups and downs?

Aww, you were so kind to think of your friend and suggest it to her. You were not to know what the DR would say. Do you think you could encourage her to join this forum? It would mean members could offer her support and advice.
