Thank you for this thread, I’ve just googled and realised that I have all the symptoms of VA too!

I like Elliebee, thought VA caused symptoms inside only not outside.

I’ve even seen the GP about it and neither of us have put 2 and 2 together!!

Gosh, what symptom will it be next?!?

I had symptoms for years and Drs never thought of VA. Once I actually suggested it and a DR said I do not have the symptoms! It is so good you know now and you can get treatment.

Vaginal Atrophy seems the wrong terminology! We’re always told to be specific when telling Drs which part of our downstairs is affected. Told that vagina refers to the inside bits and vulva outside.

I agree. It effects the vulva too. I see they call it 'genitourinary syndrome of menopause' now.

VA mimics repeated urine infection-type symptoms really, really well.  4 me it was needing to pee with intense nipping as the urine flow stopped, I would sit on the loo with a cuppa and pee at the same time.  Relaxing on the loo was the place I could sit and not worry nor need to dash.

Hi Elliebee

I’ve been having intense itching, peeing loads, burning and keep thinking I’ve got a uti coming on but my samples all test clear.

Also noticed that after showering, if I’m too heavy handed with the towel, my bits and pieces, shall we say, tear and bleed!!

Well I use Vagifem every night since I realised it was helping. But now I think I might need the other cream, ovestin too!

I’m not getting any of the urinary symptoms (yet) ! At certain times of cycle my bladder seems more active and I can never hold on if really desperate for a pee due to slight prolapse and weak pelvic floor.
My symptoms are more on the vulva prickly feeling , not itchy but like there is something in my pants rubbing skin. Skin seems sensitive to pants rubbing next to it. Sometimes a burning sensation on vulva skin. Like having ants in my pants 🤣

It's Trial and Error to get this treated, so considering the whole vaginal/vulval area is important.  Deal with symptoms B4 it takes over!  Some find that using 'yes' or 'sylc' products on the outer labia helpful.

There are a few things that can help. Showering instead of bathing to avoid prolonged contact with water. I was told by a menopause DR to apply emollient to the vulva, wash it off in the shower and then reapply to form a barrier. I was washing in water alone which was making my skin even drier. I am glad you are going to ask for Ovestin to apply to the outer areas. A vaginal moisturiser applied throughout the day will help too. Yes and Sylk are nice and gentle.

I forgot to mention that I also thought it may be Lichen Scelerious but I don’t have any iichy white patches of skin on vulva.
I need to stop googling 😬

Hi. Lichen Sclerosus doesn't always have white patches, and sometimes doesn't itch either, just to complicate things. There are quite a few women in the facebook LS group who have it but don't have those symptoms.

Elliebee, have you considered systemic hrt? That, alongside Ovestin and/or Vagifem would  almost certainly make a difference.
