Full hysterectomy post op
«

Hi ladies.
I had my full hysterectomy on 31st October and after the initial struggles of trapped wind in the shoulder and the epidural pain it calmed down.
10 days post op and I had a heavy bleed quite heavy. Freaked me out so bad, as how can I bleed when everything is gone.
The specialist said it is normal and it will come, and that I also may have done a little too much. I was going down stairs regularly for meals, washing up light items and curtains. Thought this was okay.
Anyway I went back on bed rest, no bleed since. So bored.
Today I’ve had another bleed 😭
Anyone else had this?

I've not had an hysterectomy but I know you can have light bleeds and discharge for a few weeks after. Heavy bleeding is not usual unless you have been over doing things and lifting.
If this continues and you have been good then speak to your specialist again.
After 10 days you should be doing very little still.

Hey, thankfully it’s stopped now again. Although it was red it was light loss.
I am finding it all so frustrating.

Hi,yes, this happened to me,was bleeding after hysterectomy, like you,I went into meltdown but it's par for the course,it will take time for things to settle, you mustn't do anything strenuous as you WILL aggravate things

Hey, did you have a full one that is why I freaked I am like how can you bleed when everything is gone?
I am doing hardly anything but would seem the little bits I do are affecting me.
How many times did it happen with you? x

Was such a long time ago now, I can hardly remember but I do know I went to the Dr as I was terrified BUT there will be wounds and you may have stitches, I know I have scarring inside as it showed up in an ultrasound. You say you're not doing much but even standing up uses muscles etc,you may have a little tear but it will heal,do speak to your Dr,they will reassure you

It shows you are doing too much I'm afraid. You get one chance to heal well and you have had major surgery. Your pelvic floor needs a chance to recover and become strong again. By resting as much as possible you will stand a better chance of avoiding future prolapses. I hope you've got someone making sure that you do as little as possible. Were you given instructions as to how much you can do?

I’ve got my wonderful husband who is cooking and cleaning for me and walking the dog.
Yes I’ve got a booklet that I am following but the nurses said that I could come downstairs and do a few things, that was obviously not correct.
Thanks for replying x

You can use the stairs but it's best to put both feet on each step in the beginning. I think I was extra wary due to mine being for prolapse. Did you keep your cervix?

Hi Taz, I have no idea I was told it was a full hysterectomy? I’ve been doing the stairs holding onto 2 rails.
I’ve also been told I can’t drive for 6 weeks x

I just wondered as sometimes you can have more bleeding if cervix is left. Due to prolapse I couldn't keep mine. I'm sure you would have been told as you would still need cervical smears.
Check with your insurance re driving as they have all have different rules.
It won't be long before you're all healed and can enjoy life again.
