Mornings
« on: November 05, 2022, 07:39:40 AM »

Hi ladies

After an awful couple of weeks, I’ve increased my oestrogen to 150 (under Newson care). This has lifted my mood but I wake up every morning with what I can only describe as a knot in my stomach and a tight chest. I have to get up and I feel like a panic attack is building.

I’ve previously had heart checks and I’m fine. I’m assuming this is another joy of the menopause? Any ideas on things that may help?

Thank you
Nik xx

Propranolol?  I would wake anytime after 3.00 a.m. with prehensile panic, I would have to get out of bed, get dressed and sit.

It's probably cortisol, the waking hormone.  Awful.  :-\

Hi CLKD

I take propranolol but it’s not helping sadly. It’s a weird feeling to describe 🙈

I think you’re right about the cortisol. Maybe it’s just something I have to learn to  manage.

Thank you

How much Propranolol has been prescribed and when do you take it?  I had 80mg three times a day initially reduced to 40mg every night to ease any early morning surges.

Could you try adding 20mg at lunch time, or double up the night dose?

I think they could be worth a try. It certainly can’t do any harm.

Thank you x

Hi I’ve had this strange morning feeling too I thought it was my heart and went to have checks but like you nothing wrong. I have been lucky and it’s stopped again but know how horrible it feels and the impact to your day. Try meditation and breathing exercises i found this really helped me and doing it every day really makes a difference. Knowing we all have the same symptoms really does help x

Hi CLKD

I took extra propranolol at bedtime and again when I woke through the night.
This morning was better. I still had that anxious feeling but wasn’t woken up with the horrific panicky feeling.

Fingers crossed!

Thank you for your advice x

Propranolol has a long 'shelf life' so after a few nights you shouldn't need the 'extra' in the early hours.  It takes a few changes for the body to adjust.  Let us know how you get on.

Where is the anxiety based?  4 me it's around the belly button  >:(

I think I need to take it more regularly then as I have been taking it when I think I need it. I’ll keep you updated.

It’s like a knot right in my stomach radiating up to my chest area. It’s a strange tightness x
